It was a dark and misty night when a certain girl finally had the book in her hands. In the tower with the weak glow of tall candle, she studied every word and letter as though her life depended on it. At dawn, she scurried down the spiral staircase, clutching the book with her small hands and covering it with her long hair, which seemed almost silver in the new light, from any curious eyes. Cautiously, she safely closed the door to a hidden room and disappeared for many hours. Her parents didn't mind. They were never there after all. At last, she emerged with the book and within her young mind; she became darker than any nine year old should be.
Two Years Later~
"I still can't believe you're sending me away to boarding school. What did I do wrong? What am I supposed to do in the middle of nowhere in England? Did you not realize that I actually have friends here? I'm not some lonely troublemaking loser you know," grumbled Soleil Liu.
In fact throughout most of her normal schooling, Soleil was a top student with excellent grades. Many of her teachers had even asked her parents to allow her to skip a couple of grades. Concerned that this might affect her social growth, they refused. They didn't need to worry about social growth at all, especially concerning Soleil who was a charming and beautiful girl. She had inherited the silky, raven dark hair of many Asians from her father and her eyes were a startling violet that sometimes turned slightly silver. Now, her eyes were in fact a silver that would send shivers down anyone's back except those who were used to it. Her parents had called her down for a family meeting with her older brother, who had come home from the very same boarding school that she was being sent to.
"I just don't get it! Why do you have to ruin my life?"
" We are not trying to ruin your life. There's something that we haven't told you yet. Your brother knows this but we decided to let you grow in the human world without having to keep any secrets from your friends. This is a very serious secret that you cannot tell anyone, you understand?" Her father did not wait for her answer. "You are a witch, just like your mother. Your brother is a wizard. It seems that you have both inherited the magic that runs in your mother's blood."
"WHAT?! You, the most practical and sane person I know, is trying to tell me that magic exists? That with the wave of a wand and some hocus-pocus can actually create something? Is this some joke? And what does this have anything to do with this Hogwarts boarding school?"
"Hogwarts is not just a normal boarding school. It is a school for young wizards and witches. Your mother went there when she was your age. This is real, and not a practical joke that we just randomly decided to put upon you. This is a great secret and responsibility that you must accept. You cannot use this for any evil selfish means. And you must not, and I repeat, not, tell anyone. If you do, it will not only affect you but it will impact the rest of the wizarding world."
"Okay, fine if magic is real then show me. I don't want some cheap magic trick that some stupid magician can do."
Luna, Soleil's mother, took out a wooden stick that looked like a wand and got the knives to cut the carrots without anyone near them. Then she cooked dinner, without having to stand up and do it all herself. Just a wave of the wand here and there and the job was done. As Soleil sat there watching this, she was totally stunned and shocked. Ten minutes later, she fainted.
