It is the month of June as the Deglers return home from a visit from the musuem. Ellie and Charlie loved it, but Mark, not so much.
"Ugh! That was the dullest place I have ever been to." he said, Ellie's eyes widened, she had worked with paleontologists before, so it wasn't really nice for Mark to say something like that.
"Hey! As a scientist I find that very offensive!" she said, Mark looked at her, very concerned.
"I thought you gave that up?" he said, Ellie looked down at the floorboard, she didn't like quitting her job and no longer working with Alan, but it was something that had to be done.
"I did, but that doesn't mean I've given up my love for fossils!" she exclaimed, Mark rolls his eyes and continues to drive the family home.
It is now the late evening, the neighborhood was silent as usual, no speeding cars, no loud music, and especially no dinosaurs chasing after you! Mark pulls his minivan into the garage, Ellie and Charlie get out to stretch their legs. Ellie is exhausted from the tiring day in Washington, Charlie however, is still up and going.
"That was awesome! Can we go again?!" he yelled, filled with excitement, Ellie grins at the boy, she's glad to see him have joy in his childhood, even if that joy reminded her of bad memories.
"Sure! Why not?" she said, Charlie then jumps with glee.
"YES! Thanks Mom!" he said as he hugged his mother, he then lets go and runs inside the house. Ellie, still grinning, looks at her husband as he gets out of the van.
"You know, the trip wasn't that bad." she said, Mark said nothing and entered the house as well, leaving Ellie alone. Ellie's grin now fades, she thought her sense of humor would make her husband smile, but this time it didn't. Ellie now walks out of the garage and looks up at the sky, she witnesses a shooting star coming down from outer space. Ellie smiles and then takes a deep breath.
"Oh Alan, if only you were here." she said, she then walks to the front door, and goes inside, calling it a day.
