I don't own Victorious
Cat stepped up to the microphone. She had been asked to read her poem aloud at the talent show and she was nervous.
The flower like a sparkle grows
Around the sunsets dusk
Yet you are blind and cannot see
How my life is in the rust.
She wrote that poem about how people treated her differently. She didn't want people to look at her like she was incapable. She didn't want her disabilities and problems to get in the way of who she was.
I can do all you can do
I just must do it differently
Open your eyes and realize
That I'm more then a disability.
A silence filled the room. Jade looked down, avoided eye contact. She, among other people had been treating Cat like that lately. She realized it was wrong. She realized she shouldn't have done it. She realized so much but she couldn't help it. Her friend was not the same person since she got sick. It wasn't like she was able to do the same things she used to be able to do. Jade had seen Cat seize. She had seen Cat pass out.
Be my friend
Encourage me
Look carefully but know
I am still who I used to be
Cat knew that there were some things that her illness would prevent her from doing. She couldn't do complicated things by herself for example. It wasn't that she was incapable of doing complicated things. It was just that if she had a seizure while she was doing complicated things... well that could be a disaster. She was afraid to take chances. It was as if she knew the outcome before it was even said.
When you see me down
Don't groan with aggravation
You think it's hard for you
I'm the cause of people's irritation
Cat could tell when people where just giving into her because they were annoyed. It was hard for her. The tumor didn't make her dumb. She was always smart. She was always bright. She was always aware. She knew when people really believed in her and when they were faking. She wiped a tear away and continued.
There are so many things I'd like to do
So much I know I'll never be
There are so many roads I know I can't pass
So much I wish you would see.
Cat felt angry as she read the next part of the poem.
How can you sit there in judgement of me
When your eyes are opened so wide
How can you be too blind to see
The way I feel inside!
Just like a force that can't be destroyed
I won't let that sickness win
The day will come when I'll overcome
I have the strength within
The day will come when I'll overcome
I have the strength within
As she stepped down the whole room thundered in applause
"CAT," Jade said later, "That was fantastic"
"Thanks," Cat said, "And remember the last two lines. Remember Jade YOU'RE stronger then you think you are also"
