She smiled. The medicine was clearing her mind and reason was returning slowly to her brain. She had done it. No matter how tough the consequences, she had done it!
She had freed her father. She could picture her mother's face: unbelieving…incredulous…joyous.
This was the day, and the feeling, she had waited for so long. Ever since that cold May dawn when she had been seven…the day that she had made a promise: the promise that her family wouldn't crumble under her watch.

That was perhaps unjust, but it could have gone way worse.
She, of all people, knew how bad it could get.
April furrowed her brow again. She wanted to spill really badly.
But she couldn't do it. She had promised not to.
She shot a look across the room…at Angelica. She could see that the blond-haired protector was suffering the same thoughts.
Standing by the door, April listened closely. It was still loud and clear. She sighed. The sound she heard was the sound of two hearts breaking.
Before they had escaped, Sky Clone and Sira had told the queen and king the truth.
They had ruthlessly murdered Skyler and Skyla's daughter.
They had described in vivid detail how they had done it…and the thoughts they had put into the child's head beforehand.
Skyler and his wife had believed every word.
Their tears were falling freely, and their sobs caught in their throats. They would not be consoled. They loved their daughter, and believed that they had lost her.
Hah, April silently scoffed. If only it were that simple…
