Just Another Day in Paradise

Chloe groaned as she rolled over, having been awakened by the sounds of kids screaming and the phone ringing. The phone stopped abruptly and Chloe heard her wife's voice answering it, trying to respond to whomever was on the other side, as well as corralling the children. Last night had been a sleepover for their daughter's sixth birthday and the kids had been up most of the night. Fortunately, they had been quiet enough that she and Sam had been able to actually get at least some sleep. She rose, threw on her robe, belted it around her waist, ran he fingers through her hair to settle it as much as possible, then headed out to the kitchen. A few minutes and pinched ears later, the kids were all quiet and patiently waiting for their parents to pick them up and Samantha was giving her an adoring look. She walked over and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Good morning, baby. How are you?"
"Better now, thank you," she replied, kissing her back. Once the kids were gone, their own daughter packed up with another parent for school, Chloe quickly took off down the hallway, for a fast shower. She only had half-an-hour before she would have to be at work, so she had to hurry. Opening the fridge, she took a drink of milk, but it had gone sour, so she twisted the top back on and put it back, while Sam laughed at the expression on her face. Chloe stuck her tongue out at her wife, causing her to laugh even harder. Just then, the washer started vibrating hard, dancing across the floor, then quit altogether. Sam tried to get it started again, but when she couldn't, she pulled her foot back, intent on kicking it, but Chloe put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't kick it, please. I'll add it to my list of things that need fixing. I'll look at it when I get home this evening."
"Thank you," Samantha replied, leaning her head against her wife's shoulder.

Friday nights in the Pricefield home were set aside for date night, but this evening, Sam was late getting back from her photo shoot. When she finally came whirling through the door, she called out, "Just let me change, give me five minutes and we can go."
"It's too late. Our reservation was over an hour ago."
"It was?" She glanced down at her watch, and when the time and her lateness finally sank in, tears sprang to her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Chloe. I'm so sorry." The taller woman wrapped her partner in her arms and held her head to her shoulder, quietly shushing her. "It's ok. We'll just improvise. I'll set out some candles and call Dominos, and we'll have pizza by candlelight." Sam hiccupped and her breath caught as she began to calm down and almost laughed. "Okay. Sounds good." So, before their pizza was delivered, they put their daughter to bed, tucking her in, then headed back out to the living room. They ate, sitting on the floor, their pizza on the coffee table. When they finished, they cleaned up and walked as quietly as possible to their bedroom, where they undressed and climbed into bed. However, just as they began to kiss each other, a sound at their door drew their attention. Sam called, "What's wrong, sweetie." The little girl silhouetted in the miniscule light sniffled and replied, "I had a bad dream. Can me and my teddy come in and sleep in between?" Her parents looked at each other, chuckled, and separated, Chloe patting the bed between them. "Okay, sugar. Come on up here." As she laboriously climbed up, Chloe helped her and Sam tucked her under the covers between them, where she drifted off almost immediately, surrounded by the love and comfort of her mothers. Looking up from their sleeping daughter, Chloe grinned at her wife and whispered quietly, "Just another day in paradise."
