"Lucina, my child...my most cherished memory…"
Atop a battle-scarred castle, surrounded by destruction... two figures stand opposite each other. One covered in suffocating clouds of lavender tinted shadow, the other gleaming as the last beacon of hope for a dying world. Her stance was rigid and experienced, sapphire hair flowing in the wind. Her eyes burned with a righteous fury, a fury stoked by battles past and comrades lost. Her goal, reclaim humanities future and avenge the death of her parents. Her name was Lucina, the last of her illustrious bloodline.
Across the desolate battlements was her mortal enemy... the Fell Dragon Grima, a hooded entity devoted to creating hopelessness and death. The cause behind the twisted future that Lucina fought so desperately to alter. With her very being, Lucina mustered the last ounce of courage and strength within herself and charged headlong at her foe. Grima proceeded to return Lucina's ferocity with equal amounts of power, arms extended sprinting forward. As the two approached each other, the outside world became eerily silent, it was as if time itself was slowing down.
In an instant, all movements blurred and blades crossed, blood was drawn...
Lucina remained motionless, the only audible sound on the battlefield was her own shallow breathing. Lucina's eyes were fixated on the cloaked figure, her exalted sword Falchion had pierced through its abdomen, and the battles victor was made clear. Lucina removed her sword in a swift, fluid motion and returned it to its scabbard at her side. She looked to the sky as a gust of wind lifted the hair from her back.
"At last…it is over" she pronounced, "Grima...is defeated."
Lucina took a deep breath, reflecting on how this destruction had come to pass. She thought about her mother and father, her friends and all the others who were taken from her too early. Eyes turning to her fallen foe, Lucina found the dark shroud concealing its true identity vanished in an instant. What Lucina saw was not a face of a demonic being glaring back at her, but the soft features of a beautiful woman whose hair danced with the breeze, a vivid brown. The woman's face had caring eyes that seemed... clouded with regret. they were the eyes of a peaceful soul Lucina had long thought dead.
"N-no... I, this cannot be... Mother!"
Lucina's stance grew weak and she fell to her knees at the woman's side.
"Oh gods…no, not you...how is this possible?..."
It had been so long since Lucina last cried, yet silver tears flowed freely from her eyes and began to run down her face. She thought all the years of battle and bloodshed had steeled her emotions, but the confusing sight before her released all she had bottled up inside.
"T-they told me you were killed... along with father and the rest of the Shepherds... so how can this be?"
The cloaked woman clenched her stomach and winced in pain as drops of crimson fell from her mouth.
"M-mother!"
Lucina leaned forward and embraced her mother against herself, cradling her in her arms. The cloaked figure looked up at Lucina, and finally spoke…
"L-Lucina... my poor baby." the woman slowly reached up with trembling hands to touch Lucina's face, she stared directly into Lucina's eyes.
"It's difficult to believe..." she whispered, "That you were once so small and fragile. Looking at you now... you've grown into such a strong and beautiful woman. Your father and I were truly blessed."
Lucina wrapped her arms around her mother and squeezed tightly, the fallen tears from her eyes landing on her mother's face.
"I don't understand, you must have suffered more than anyone else mother. To call yourself blessed is..."
"Lucina, there is much you do not know." her mother replied, a soft smile forming on her face. "Much you do not know about your father and I, and the journey that we shared as Shepherds. You... are my most cherished memory Lucina. The joy of having you near me when you were a baby never left my heart, even when my mind and body were lost..."
As she spoke her eyes looked to the clearing sky above, taking in the radiant cobalt that began to shine through the clouds... it reminded her of that day, her very first memory.
"I first met your father, lying down like this, in a field. I had no idea who I was or where I came from… but somehow, I knew him."
Author's Note: This is my first attempt at penning a story for Fanfic. Basically motivated to do so by all the sweet ChromxFeMU stories I've read here, and the fact that being in the military kindov mentally screws with me so I need an escape sometimes (really hope the negative vibes I can get through military sh*t doesn't seep into my story). Also I really wanted to get on paper my own tweak to the Amazing! game Fire Emblem Awakening's story, something's could have been expanded upon, and I really like Chrom with FeMU so I wanted to make things more romantical. Hope I can stick with it.
