disclaimer: I do not own the harry potter series :( same goes for all of my other stories, I keep forgetting to put a disclaimer!
Professor McGonagall walked through the hallway of Hogwarts to get to her class. All of a sudden, two large and fast things almost hit her in the head!
"Peeves!" she yelled, knowing that the poltergeist was behind this. She heard a cackling as he swooped off to create some other mischief. She shook her head; there was no stopping that prankster.
Later that day, during her 5th year class, she saw Harry was having trouble transforming his rabbit into a charm. Strange, he did it yesterday. She noticed that his hand was bleeding. She went over to help him, and to find out why Miss Granger did not perform a healing spell. As she got closer to their table, they seemed to grow more nervous.
"Mr. Potter, why are you unable to perform the transformation? You were able to do it yesterday."
"I'm just tired. I didn't have a lot of sleep, late detention again." He seemed to not be telling everything, and I saw Hermione and Ron looking at him promptingly, like they wanted him to tell me something.
"Let me see your hand. It is bleeding through the cloth you have put over it. Why did you not go to Madame Pomfrey, she could have healed it in seconds."
"I didn't want to be a bother. It's nothing, I promise, just a cut." I could tell her was lying, so I took his hand since it was obvious he was not going to cooperate. The class seemed to be holding their breath. (Everyone had heard of the blood quill. They wondered why Harry did not report Umbridge, everyone hated her, and this was a good way to get rid of her.) She cleaned the excess blood off of Harry's hand and gasped at what she saw. The words 'I must not tell lies' written in crimson on the back of his hand.
"Who did this to you?! Why did you not come to me?!" she screeched, the entire class listening.
"I did not want to bother anyone. Besides, if I complain, the high inquisitor will create a decree that anyone who complains about her detentions will be sacked. That can't happen just because I complained of a little pain!"
"You should have told me, I would not have removed the points from Gryffindor if you had told me!"
"Just leave it alone, I can handle a little pain every night for a couple of hours. That way she does not win, and no one gets hurt. She does this because she wants to get under my skin, because I'm a 'liar' and 'unstable'." Hermione finally had to speak up.
"A few hours every night?! Harry, your detentions are from 5-12 every night! That is not just a few hours, that is torture!"
"I can handle torture for a little while Hermione, I've done it before!" he yelled angrily.
"You shouldn't have to! You already deal with too much as it is!" Hermione yelled, almost in tears.
"Who else is going to do it?" he yelled back.
"Harry," she spoke softly, not being able to stand being silent anymore, "you could have told me, even if I can do nothing, we could still fix this."
"It doesn't matter professor, just leave it alone." He said, seeming tired.
"Fine, I will leave it alone for now. We will stop her eventually." I said, tired and frustrate that I could do nothing to help my students. when I saw peeves a few days later trying to unscrew the chandelier in the Great Hall, I said "It inscrews the other way." this was the only way I could help my students, so why not?
REVIEW! I mean it!
