Ron Weasley was walking on tiptoe. There was no reason for him to do this except that he felt guilty. Madame Pomfrey wouldn't care that he was there. He was just worried what Harry would think if he knew that Ron had visited Hermione without him. He just wanted to be alone with Hermione for a few minutes. He never really got to talk to her without Harry there. He poked his head around the curtain surrounding her bed
"Guess who?" he said grinning as he saw Hermione jump in surprise. Her still yellow eyes searched behind Ron.
"Where's Harry?" she asked as she sat up.
"Writing a potions essay he forgot about about." Ron lied. "I thought you might like some company." Hermione smiled. Ron's eyes swept over her bare arms and saw that all the cat fur had vanished. "You're looking a lot less cat-like today." Hermione rolled her eyes.
"I know why you're really here," she said with a knowing look. "Enjoy yourself" she said motioning to the pile of sweets on her bedside table. Ron laughed.
"You know me too well, Hermione," he said as he reached for a chocolate frog. She giggled as he ravenously opened the wrapper, glanced at the card, and finding it worthless, threw it on the table. She reached for a sugar quill and began suckling the delicate treat.
They sat in silence for a few minutes enjoying their sweets. Ron glanced up at Hermione licking the quill. Ron watched her lips glide over the treat and wondered for a moment how they would feel on his. He gave himself a mental shake. This was Hermione, for Godric's sake! Bookworm, know-it-all, buck-teethed, bushy haired Hermione.
He finished up his frog and reached over to the table for another one. He froze when he noticed how close he was to those sugar covered lips. They were coming closer! Was she going to kiss him? Suddenly, they pulled away. He realized she had just been reaching for the cup of water that was on the table.
"Uh…um," he stammered. Hermione raised an eyebrow.
"Is something the matter, Ron?" she asked.
"Um, no. I mean… you got some sugar quill on your cheek." He muttered. It was true. Hermione did indeed have a few sugar crystals glittering on her cheek. She giggled.
"Where?" she asked. He pointed to a spot on his face.
"Just there," he answered. She tried wiping away the sugar, but missed. He chuckled.
"You missed," He pointed to her cheek this time. "Right there."
She tried wiping it away again, but to no avail.
"It's still there. Here, I'll get it." He had no idea what made him do it, but he reached his face forward and gave her a kiss right on the sugary spot. He put his tongue out a little bit and removed the sugar. He pulled away, his heart a little faster. Hermione looked flustered and Ron knew his ears probably looked like tomatoes.
"Um, thanks Ron." she almost whispered.
"Anytime," He said and then realized what that sounded like. "Uh, I mean no problem." He smiled a little weakly and looked at his wrist.
"Well, I should get going." He muttered. He got up and quickly disappeared from the hospital wing.
Hermione looked at the spot where the redheaded boy had just been. She raised a hand to her cheek and smiled. He hadn't been wearing a watch.
