Prologue
Kate Beckett awoke on a Saturday, her first day off in a month. The backup team at the 12th was on call, and she was free to sleep in. Castle's arms were wrapped around her waist; he was still asleep. She began separating his arms carefully as to not wake him. But she wasn't careful enough. Castle's eyes shot open, and he immediately sat up. "Good morning, Kate!" he smiled, more perky than usual. Beckett kissed him on the lips. "You know, I'll never get used to being called Kate," she began, "but I'll always call you Castle." Castle stood up, stretching his arms. "So, what do you want to-" he was cut off by Kate's rapid sprint to bathroom. He chased after her and held her hair as she got sick. "Thanks, Castle." she said to him. She went downstairs to the couch and laid down. "Beckett, are you feeling alright? I mean, I have a meeting with Black Pawn today. But if you're not, I'd be more than happy to stay home with you." Beckett smiled at his kind gesture. "No, I'm fine. You go. I'll call you if there's any problems." In the following 15 minutes, Castle was dressed, and was about to leave. As he opened the door, he pulled out his iPhone and took a photo of Kate. "Castle, what was that for?" she asked, angrily. She believed she was not photogenic. "Instagram. Bye, love you!" and with that he slammed the door shut. Kate changed into a tunic, some jeans, and a pair of Rainbows. She was about to leave when she remembered something. She pulled out her phone and went to the calendar. Crap, I'm late. I was supposed to start three weeks ago, she thought. Wait, what if I'm...no, no, no. I'm not. But it's better to be safe than sorry...I'll take a test just to be sure.
She arrived home at 4:30 after a day of shopping with Lanie. On the way home she'd been sure to stop by the drug store and get some pregnancy tests. She took each of the 6 tests, one at a time. Each test revealed the exact same result: positive. "Well, you know what they say: children in the dark cause accidents, accidents in the dark cause children. Except...this wasn't an accident. This was meant to be." she told herself. She kept her composure. The excitement kept building inside of her. Kate began to make fettucine alfredo- her mom's recipe. Castle got home as she finished.
"Dinner time, Castle." she told him. "Smells delicious." Castle replied. "Well, Johanna Beckett never had one bad recipe." They both chuckled and sat down at the table. There was silence as they devoured our food. The silence was broken by Beckett talking.
"Castle, would you be willing to have another child?"
"Actually, yes. Do you want one?" he raised his eyebrows.
"How's nine months from now?" she replied.
"Wait, you're-"
Kate nodded her head, smiling. He jumped up from his seat, lifting Kate up, repeating over and over "We're having a baby!" He opened up the window, yelling out, "My girlfriend is pregnant!" Kate laughed as he set her down, and she led him to the bathroom where all the tests lay in the sink, and he just laughed happily. Tomorrow they would make an appointment with the OB. This was the miracle Kate had always wanted. They were having a little baby Castle!
