The Gravity of Love

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto…period! If I did…well…Gaara would be MINE! Bwahahahahaha

Somewhere in the Naruto world Gaara shudders.

It echoes…the lone heart beat of another human being lying beside me.

'I can't sleep.' Even though the demon was cast from me and there is no longer danger if I sleep, at this moment I refuse it. I just want to watch her sleep.

My hand touches her pale cheek, long fingers trace the outline of her jaw, her pert nose, her closed eyes and full pink lips. Her dark lashes rest against her cheeks reminding me of soft crows feathers and her full lips open and she lets out s dream filled sigh and holds me close to her.

My head in her chest, moving with every breath she takes, music filling my ears as her heart beats.

I find comfort there, in her warm breast.

A comfort I have never really known in my life, something that should have me, a devil, running away from her delicate form yet it drives me to her.

"Ga-gaara?"

My angel has awakened.

"What?"

I feel her smile.

"um…you should s-sleep."

After this we say nothing and again she falls back into her dreams and I am left awake to watch her as the stars fall, the moon shines upon us, as the sun rises over the horizon to welcome a new day.

I watch her in her sleep, a savage peace taking over me.

She doesn't love me, I know this.

She is my partner in this mission and yet…and yet?

What else is there to us?

She loves my dear friend whom doesn't know she exists and I care about her but am too stubborn to tell her.

I don't know love, I have never known love but in this young woman's arms, as she sleeps, I am eager to learn.

"He's asleep." The Angel says as she touches his tousled red hair. Long fingers trace the character that adorns his head, then to his eyes lids, then to his cold lips. A smile graces her lips as she moves her head closer, closer until the gap between them is closed.

'I'll tell him one day that I love him…I'll be brave and tell him!' She thought as she touched his forhead and found his fever almost gone. The body contact to rid his fever worked and, she mused, she should get dressed and let him rest.

She didn't move.

She had absorbed the fever, he was getting better.

She was never fond of contact in any way, she was too shy but when he grew ill on their mission she had, without second thought shed him of his clothes and shed herself of her own as well to absorb his fever.

She didn't want to move away from him.

She kissed his cold lips again, pulled away only to find him awake.

The same placid look on his face and yet he smiled and pulled her to him this time to hold her against him.

The birds began to sing around them as the Devil and the Angel held one another close in silent respite.
