Author's Note: Just an idea that popped into my head when I was pondering if William would ever come back to his family. Let me know if you want this to become a multi-chapter fic!

Her secret was festering inside of her.

Her heart had been shattered.

He had left them. Her husband had left. Her happiness, for the moment, had gone with him. She put up a good front for Spencer's sake, but knew that she couldn't keep it up for long.

She looked down at the pregnancy test. There were two pink lines. She was pregnant with her second child.

She sat on her bed, staring at the test. What was she to do? She glanced at the clock. It was noon. Spencer wouldn't be home for three more hours. She dragged herself out of bed and into the shower. She dressed herself, got her purse and keys, and got in the car and drove to her husband's law firm.

The receptionist knew her and allowed her to see William during his lunch.

He was surprised to see her. "Diana?"

"Hello, William."

He knew her well enough to know that she wasn't here on a casual visit. Something was going on. "What are you doing here, Diane?"

She sat across from her, and he studied her face as she looked at him for the first time in a month. Her skin was sallow, and the color was gone from her face. She didn't look sick per se, but there was a bleakness to her that hadn't been there before. It worried him, although he did his best to push the feeling away.

Diana swallowed. She screwed up all the courage she had, then blurted it out.

"I'm pregnant."

He blinked in shock. His jaw went slack and he stared at her. Diana was quiet. They looked at each other in silent tableau. He didn't know what to think, or even say. How did it happen? And why? After all they'd been through together...

Diana couldn't handle the silence anymore. "Maybe this happened for a reason. Maybe this is the universe's way of saying our time together isn't up yet."

Her hand fell to her abdomen. She pictured her baby snuggled up inside of her, happy and safe. It warmed her from the inside out.

William's eyes followed her hand. Old memories came flooding back. The early years of their marriage, when they had been so young and carefree, Caring for Spencer during his infancy, every tender moment and touch they shared.

Maybe he should give her a second chance after all.

It wasn't her fault that she was sick. And Spencer shouldn't be left to care for her at his age. He deserved to be a child.

In truth, he still loved his wife and son. He just couldn't bear the burden of supporting the entire family on his shoulders. He loved them dearly. He couldn't bring himself to abandon her now that she was expecting.

"I think you're right." He said, calmly.

Disbelief shot through Diana, but she kept a straight face.

"Are you going to come back?" It was a gravelly whisper, terrified but still imbued with the faintest glimmer of hope.

William tentatively reached across his desk and took Diana's hand in his.

"Yes."
