Running - Jnk1296

Background - I've been working on this large "project" ever since I posted the second chapter to Save Me, since I didn't like the approach I'd taken to the story, or the story line in general. So, I've been working on this "project" on and off for close to two months. Below is something I wrote during study hall for an intro, which I later discarded. It is describing Izzy. All I can say is that this new project has made poor Izzy's life a much worse hell than in Save Me. No I am not against Izzy, the "project" is meant to bring her comfort in the end.

Running.

That was all she could do.

Her heart pounded as the sound of her footsteps echoed through the relentless night.

Her eyes stung from the tears, or maybe it was just the rain, she didn't know.

All she could think to herself was "it's happening again", that and nothing more.

The thought replayed in her mind over and over again, like a broken record, like her broken spirit.

Onward she ran, trying to get away from anything and everything.

She wasn't wanted here, so why should she stay?

It was hopeless.

In fact, hope itself had died long ago, along with her faith, along with... no. No!

She couldn't bring herself to finish the thought, not now; it was all too much to take.

She continued to run, going beyond the reach of the street lights that illuminated the road,

wanting to hide herself in the darkness that had consumed her life, her soul, and everything she had come to know and love.

At least, what she thought she had loved.

She ran until the glow of the town was far off into the distance, and stopped for a moment to rest.

She sat down, her mind racing as she tried to comprehend it all.

Surely he hadn't meant it, had he? Could he have? She wasn't sure what to think anymore.

With her hope all but gone, and her will dwindling, she couldn't bear the disappointment that came from assumptions, and avoided them like the plague.

Her thoughts only grew in intensity, until finally she stood up, screaming at the top of her lungs.

So loud was the scream that even the mighty roar of the thunder clap overhead could not dampen its sound.

She screamed until the pain in her throat became too much for her to continue.

As her yell echoed and faded into the night, it was replaced by silence.

She was no stranger to silence, and had befriended it long ago, but this silence was different.

It was as though the silence had turned its back on her, only reminding her of how truly alone she was in this world, and how broken she felt.

She looked around at the darkness that surrounded and trapped her, and let out a small whimper, before bolting off into the distance again.

She wasn't sure where she was running to, but it didn't matter to her anymore.

Nothing did.
