AN: -emerges from the dead- Hello guys! Sorry I haven't written anything since August. My first semester at college turned out to be a bit more hectic than I thought. But I wrote this today because finals are over for me, so I have a few weeks to write again. :3 This is a companion piece to "Expected" (2 years late, I know. :c) so you should read that to get the full effect.

Also, for those new to the Tsubasa fandom, this does contain spoilers for the Acid Tokyo arc, so be cautious when reading.

And that's all I have to say about this lol. Enjoy, and hopefully I'll have more up soon. :D

He had never expected it to turn out like this.

Then again, when had things ever really gone the way he planned?

He knew it had been a risk to try and restore the boy's eye, but he didn't want those children to have to suffer any more than they already had.

They shouldn't have to suffer for that man's wish like he had.

But maybe that miscalculation had turned out better than he thought.

He'd finally be able to see his brother again, and maybe it would somehow atone for his sins.

He had forgotten to consider, however, his companion with the burning red eyes.

Those red eyes that had always seen too much. Had always read him too easily.

No, he hadn't believed that the man would go so far just to save a life so worthless as his own.

Had he not admitted himself that he was the very type of person he hated most? That he had killed so many people without even a second thought?

He had noticed the pain in the other's eyes as he let his life slip away slowly, but thought nothing of it at the time.

He had smiled then, because he was supposed to die. It was going to be better for them this way.

But the man had saved him, giving away his own freedom and blood just to keep him alive.

And he was even more of a monster as a result.

No, he couldn't let himself forgive the man for saving him.

Misfortune, that was the only thing he brought with him. It was his true curse.

And so, he locked his heart away, and put on a mask of ice as he awoke.

"Good morning, Kurogane."
