Lighting flashed outside Casey's curtained window and the thunder followed with a resounding crash. Casey rolled her eyes as the lights flickered for the umpteenth time this hour as she closed her journal shut. She heard another crash, but it wasn't the thunder, it was Derek and Kendra fighting downstairs. She slowly tiptoed out of her room and sat daintily on the top step, watching the couple most likely break up again.
"Admit it, Derek. You've just been faking feelings for me to hide your true feelings for Casey." She hissed, jabbing a manicured nail at his chest. Derek walked circles around her, tugging furiously at his hair. He finally stopped, crossing his arms and blowing an aggravated breath.
"How the hell are you going to say that? She's my step-sister, that's wrong on so many levels." Derek cried, growing more frustrated at Kendra's smirking face.
"Hun, it's not even incest. Read a dictionary once in awhile." Derek narrowed his eyes at her, but before he could open his mouth she began her own tirade, "These past 6 months, I could tell you weren't even interested in me. You'd always make an excuse to come home and "annoy" Casey when I'm sure you just wanted to be around her. I'm not stupid, Derek."
"Fine, I like her, Kendra. It wont ever work out, so why bother? Plus, this has to be some stupid little crush, Derek Venturi doesn't fall for anyone." Kendra shot him a murderous look, clearly offended, "Er…no offense?" She sighed impatiently, glancing in the other direction.
Casey bit her nail uneasily as she watched the two of them bicker. She felt this surge of happiness bubble in her chest, but it was quickly replaced with a pit of worry. She did feel something about him, but what about the family? Chances are, they wouldn't be happy if they found out that their children were dating. Her breath hitched in her throat as she saw Derek make a B-line for the stairs. Casey quickly jumped up and ran to her room, closing the door as quietly as she could, doing a combination of a dive, a flip and a belly flop onto her bed, but missing terribly.
"Uh, Casey? It sounds like you have World War III going on in there. Did you break something?" Casey involuntarily snorted into her pillow at the noise she made trying to land on her bed.
"I'm fine, just…didn't quite make it onto the bed…" She could feel Derek's smirk through the door, "And don't start with the Klutzilla shit again or I will make sure that you do not reproduce." She grabbed the door knob and came face to face with Derek.
"Hey, well, I just wanted to tell you that I broke up with Kendra for good." He said with a small smirk, crossing his arms with arrogance. A small smile played across Casey's lips and she sighed.
"Really now? I could of sworn that she broke up with you, or did my ears deceive me?" Derek's face flushed as he stared down at the floor, becoming interested in his socks. She laughed quietly, giving Derek the chills, she placed her index finger under his chin and lifted his face to hers. His eyes slowly met hers as she captured his lips in a soft kiss, his body relaxed under her touch and he kissed her back. She pulled away, still wearing a smirk on her pretty face.
"You're cute when you blush." And with that, she closed her door and sat at her desk, flipping open her journal again. She heard his retreating footsteps and smiled to herself.
Dear journal,
It's so cliché, but he took my breath away…
