Crossroads
'Here he comes' Kira thought and stiffened his shoulders, forcing himself to continue to walk in a steady gait despite the shaking of his knees.
'Here. Right here.' He stopped and bowed to the person coming the opposite way. "Good morning, Captain Aizen."
The brunette captain regarded him with a small smile that sent a shiver down Kira's spine. No 'good morning' back, no small talk, no questions to how his former lieutenant-now fellow captain was doing, no niceties. Just a smile and continued on his way.
It terrified the blond for some reason
"Everything alright, Izuru?"
Kira looked up from his reports and met the squinty gaze of his captain. "Yes, why? Is there a problem?"
Gin frowned, raising a hand to scratch his cheek. "Maaa….you seem a little stiff. Did something happen on your way here?"
Kira's knees froze as his face betrayed his surprise. Did his captain know? How did he know? Was he too obvious? Of course he was too obvious, more than once Renji and Hisagi had told him he wore his heart quite clearly on his sleeve.
"Izuru?"
The silver-haired man's voice broke through his thoughts and Kira straightened, smoothing the papers in front of him.
"No, I met with Captain Aizen on my way here, nothing happened?"
"With Aizen? Did he say anything to you? Did he do something?"
For some reason, Ichimaru's voice seemed urgent, worried maybe.
"N-no…he just nodded his head, he didn't do or say anything to me," Kira blinked as he spoke, curious that his captain had frowned more and then sighed.
Had he…done something wrong?
"Capt-"
"Come over here, Izuru," he made a 'come here' gesture with his bony hand. Unwavering, the blond stood and walked the few steps that separated their desks. Gin reached and took Izuru's wrist, bringing him over behind the desk, himself still sitting as he looked up at his lieutenant.
"Izuru."
"Captain Ichi-"
"Ah-ah. What did I tell you?"
The blond sighed, "Captain Gin."
"No."
Kira sighed once more, making the other man chuckle and himself smile a tiny bit.
"Gin-san."
He could never make his lietenant call him just 'Gin', no matter how much he coaxed or threatened him to feed him dried persimmons. It made him smile anyway.
"Izuru, I'll trust you if you trust me, m'kay?"
"I know."
"Are you sure nothing happened with Aizen."
"Nothing happened…I just greeted him and he nodded."
Gin stared at him for a moment, running his thumb over the veins on the blond's thin wrist, soon he changed his hold and took Izuru's hand into his.
"If anyone ever bothers you, you come and tell me, okay?"
"Yes, Capt-"
"Izuru…."
"….yes, Gin-san."
"Good. Now go check on my persimmons, I think they're almost ripe~"
The face Izuru made that insant made Ichimaru burst into laughter which the blond soon joined in with quiet chuckles.
Gin was glad he could give his lieutenant these small moments of happiness, and he hoped he would remember them fondly for the rest of his life….
A/N: I don't even know where I was going with this…. I think I wanted to write something where Gin and Izuru just have a good relationship (non-abusive and non-sexual) and people (*cough*aizen*cough*andshuuhei*coughcough*) think there had to be something else going on.
I might continue, I might not, I dunno…I'll sleep on it.
