I'll meet you in my heart
The night she leaves, it's a full moon.
She does not see it nor does she feel that the ground she stands on is any brighter, but he tells her as they stand together, staring past the window to a magnificent view of Earth. It's a deep contrast, this scenery with its everlasting blackness dotted with sparkling stars and a massive orb of blue and green and wisps of white, to the shimmering white city that surrounds her under the towering glass domes.
They stand in silence for a long while, both no doubt thinking of the time they've spent. Neither fancies the thought that one could stay with the other – it's a mere daydream, a thing of fantasies and fairy tales and an unnecessary means to a heartbreak, but she knows that both wonder if they could find a place together.
She tries to memorise every detail of him for the last time. She takes in his serious gaze and deep eyes and the way his mouth droops to one side leading eyes to the mole on his cheek. She takes in the feel of his unkempt brown hair against her fingers, takes in the taste of his lips against hers.
He takes her in just as much.
When the time comes for her to leave, there are no goodbyes. There are no tears or smiles or wishes of safe travel. There is only a fleeting press of lips and a momentary embrace before she finds herself in the cockpit of a military ship heading home. She realises, however, as she catches sight of the domes that encase the marble city with its white buildings and tall trees and lush gardens for the last time, that there is no need for goodbyes or tears or wishes of safe travel.
Because for him, home is in the stars, and for her, home is on the planet with a sky the colour of a blue jay's wing.
But for both, their home is in each other.
It's been a really, really long while since I've written any sort of fanfiction so i thought I'd write a short piece for two of the most important side characters in the series. An addition (a very late one) for the theme "Home" for the TLC Ship weeks (which I have somehow never participated in...).
Thank you for reading 3
