I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER OR ANY OF THE HOGWARTS UNIVERSE! ALL THAT BELONGS TO MS ROWLING, BLESS HER HEART.

Her heart was pounding in her chest. The steady palpitations slightly moving her blouse as she sat there silently, waiting for an interview. Hermione's face furrowed in anxiety.

"This is it." she thought. "Today's the day when I can finally follow my heart.

She was being interviewed at the Ministry in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. She could finally make her dream for house elves become reality. People would no longer laugh at her, nor would they only support her out of sympathy or annoyance. They would finally see how harshly the elves were being treated. She was excited and nervous.

"Miss Granger? Please, follow me." said a stern looking witch.

Hermione got up, dusted herself off and followed the witch down the corridor and through a door. The witch introduced Hermione to the head of the department, Grogan Stump. He was a portly looking man. Bald on the top of his head.

"Ah! Miss Granger. Please take a seat" He said kindly. "Now tell me, what do you plan to do whilst here at the Ministry? What qualities could you bring to the department?"

Hermione sat there for a moment to gather her thoughts.

"I plan to help house elves. I don't think it's fair to treat them the way they are treated. I once knew a house elf who was expected to go to the top of a high place. She was terrified. It lead to a series of events that have changed the world since. If she wasn't there in the first place, a lot of things may not have happened. I'm a very hard working person, sir. I just think that all creatures should have equal rights... minus the wand rules because they won't share their magic with us..."

"Hm... You make a very fair point. How did you score on your O.W.L.S?" He asked interestedly.

"I received eleven O.W.L.S and ten outstandings."

"Most impressive. I take it you were an excellent student?"

"Well, I paid attention in a History of Magic... does that make me a good student?" Hermione asked.

Stump chuckled. "Yes m'dear. It does. If you can listen to Binns carry on, then I think you'd make a fine employee. We'll contact you later in the week to tell you if you have the job. Good day Miss Granger."

"Good day Mr. Stump." Replied Hermione.

Hermione left the room and went to the atrium where Ron and Harry were waiting after their interviews.

"Well? How'd it go?" Asked Ron.

"C'mon Hermione. It can't have been as bad as Ron's... He nearly set his jeans on fire" laughed Harry.

Hermione smiled. "I think it went well." She said.

They apparated home.
