The Final Memoirs of Uchiha Mikoto

AN: Wrote this on a whim. I don't know. I was bored and I really was in this type of mood. There is really no in depth look into the character of Sasuke's mom. All we know is that Itachi killed her and she was friends (or at least on friendly terms) with Kushina Uzumaki. This is my interpretation of her motives.

Disclaimer: I do not own any Naruto characters. Or Naruto for the matter.

Kushina,

It has been several years. This shall be my final word.

Your son has grown up in an interesting way. In fact, he is a lot like you even though he looks more like Namikaze. He even pranks the same way as you used to back in the days before the war. I remember the time when he managed to vandalize the Hyuuga compound with pink, orange and silver paint. How he managed that, I will never know.

He is a fine boy, Kushina. You would have been proud of him.

I...I am so sorry. I did not live up to the promise that we shared that one late July night. I know that if my clan had been wiped out, you would have gladly taken Sasuke and Itachi in as if they were your own. I, on the other hand, was given the turn around by every single member of the council. Fugaku nor I could touch the boy. The Hokage is a fool.

I tried everything I could and I eventually surrendered, something you would have never done. You would have battled the Sage of Six Paths himself to fulfill your promises. It seems that even today, you are still a better woman than I. Nothing has changed since the Academy. This admission leaves nothing but a sour taste in my mouth.

Despite what others claim, my clan never held any ill will towards your boy. The Uchiha clan owes a debt of gratitude towards you and your late husband. And as I have told you many times before, an Uchiha never leaves a debt unpaid. We are unlike those damned Senju.

We plan on rectifying this unpaid debt soon. For when we take over Konoha, your boy will be praised as the Hero he should have been from the very beginning. No longer will those civilian fools be ignorant to his sacrifices. His name will stand on the same summit as the Hokage's once Konoha is ours.

My youngest seems to have something of a rivalry with him. It is quite amusing to watch.

I wish you were still here, Kushina. Perhaps the world wouldn't be on the brink of chaos then. You always had a way of solving problems without dire reprecussion.

And when you couldn't do it, Namikaze would always be there to clean house.

While not as talented, your boy certainly shares your resilience. In the face of true hatred, he never faltered. Not once.

As much as it shames me to admit it, your boy is stronger than me. His heart is strong. His will is unwavering. And his ambition is unsatiable. He declares that he will become Hokage every single minute of every hour of every day.

Just like you.

Perhaps the Uzumaki truly are made of stronger material than the Uchiha. What good are these eyes when all we see with them is pain?

I believe this letter has gone on long enough. But again, I cannot express my remorse enough. I have failed you, my dearest friend.

I can only hope that once we meet again, you will find it in your heart to forgive me.

For my blood is truly cursed.

All of my Love,

- Uchiha Mikoto
