Undying

The usual activity around Hogwarts normally had something to do with students, not Death Eaters. In the air there were no explosions, no heart-wrenching screams, just the annual sounds of students worrying over exam notes. Hogwarts was predominately a place of peace, a sanctuary. But during the Battle of Hogwarts on the 2nd of May 1998, the inhabitants of the castle found no peace.

Fred Weasley stood with his close twin outside the secret passage from honeydukes. The hollow statue led straight to Hogsmeade and it was a very likely bet that some unwanted guests might come visiting.

He pricked up his ears as muffled sounds came from the passage - the death eaters were coming. Wand at the ready he glanced sideways at George, who grinned widely at him before signalling to the group of seventh year Hogwarts students around them

"Stunners as soon as they get in range," he whispered. Fred could hear as the unknown people in the tunnel reached the end. Slowly the stump began to slid over…

"Stupefy!" Half a dozen voices rang out. Fred looked at the people they had caught.

Death eaters. Three of them evidently trying to find another way in past the fighters in the entrance hall.

Grimacing, Hannah Abbot - a Hufflepuff, he remembered her being in Ron's year, leaned down to study the faces of the death eaters. She shook her head
"These three aren't wanted by the ministry. I don't recognise them."
Fred shook his head "new recruits." He pointed his wand at the three males and bound them so they couldn't escape, before dumping them in corner. "it'll be a while before any of them wake up again."

Glancing up, he could sense the impatience of everyone. He too, heard the loud sounds of spells fired downstairs, the duels against death eaters, felt fear, not knowing what was happening, where their close family and friends were. At least I know George is safe, I couldn't bear it if something happened to him!

"Guys?" He asked "I feel that this task is complete. If we block the opening, then it'll be safe from intruders, then we can go 'join the party'."
The relieved looks on everyone's face confirms that this is the right thing to do. Better to let everyone find their loved ones, than to keep them all waiting in part-fear.

The six former students all rushed away, the DA, Fred noticed, sticking particularly close together. Those that fought hardest and longest, fighting together at the end.
Before long only Fred and George were still standing there, before George gestured down a corridor, and the twins raced along it side by side, wands drawn for the ready and knowing they were together.

We'll never be apart.
