Thoughts of a Hero

Chapter 1

I leaned over the bridge and peered down at the sea below me; this was a day to antagonize the village people and cause minor destruction. I bolted down the bridge and took a path to reach the farmer's barn. I was devising a plan to traumatize the livestock in someway; I was sick of kicking pigs. I wanted to hurt something much less dangerous so I could escape unharmed. I was going to startle a horse.

I approached the barn with my toy snake. I went after one that looked the most calm and nonirritant. I read the name Epona on her stable. I said "Hey girl" and fed the rubber snake in through a crack in the wood. I wiggled it in a slithering motion enough for her to see it; she let out a terrified "Nay" while she rose on her hind legs. I backed up overflowing with adrenaline. She kicked the doors of her stable open and galloped into the field. I bursted out laughing. Suddenly I heard the opening of a door; the farmer was coming out to investigate, I was sure of it. I could easily recognize the creaking of his door since I had messed with him countless times. Not once has he ever caught me; I was still probably unknown to him.

I fled to my usual hiding spot which was a barrel next to were he kept his horseshoes:

"Epona" he yelped "how'd you get out here; its getting dark girl come back to your stable".

I could hear him entering the barn; I accidentally dropped the snake which made a loud clunk noise. His footsteps stopped then started again getting louder. He peeked in and asked:

"Boy, what are you doing in my barrel in my barn"

I had to think fast.

"Well I went over to pet her and I must have frightened her; She broke out of her stable and ran off. I'm sorry sir".

"It's alright boy; I'll walk you home now it's gettin' dark. Supper time soon."

He walked me to my porch and knocked on the door:

"Heavens Link! Aryll and I have been waiting hours for you" Said my grandma shooting me a look.

"I found him messin' around in my barrel near the stables. I walked him here since it was dark and all".

"Well that was very kind of you!"

My grandma was sweet but gullible. The way she saw me would change drastically if she knew how crude I could really be. She let me roam town every night and never once questioned me on what I spent my time doing.

I passed my grandma into the house and went upstairs to think only to find Aryll rummaging though my things, my socks and shirts covered the floor. She picked up my copy of Playrule Magazine. My face went red as she yelled:

"Link, thats gross, you're disgusting"

"Shut up! Don't look at that and don't you dare show grandma"

"I'm telling her!"

"No!"

That was the last thing I needed! Not only because I would be in deep shit but, because I did not want my sister to end up like me. She had asked me to let her tag along on my outings but, I always refused. I love her to much to let her life be ruined along with mine. I followed her down stairs.

To be continued.
