Notes: This small ficlet is firmly SLASH, of the Jack x Will variety. It really only mentions it, but it is in there. So if you do not like/approve of slash, please click the back button. :)

It took a long while for William Turner to tell when a Pirate was telling the truth.
Or, more accurately, it took him a while to tell when they weren't outright lying. They tended to tell small mistruths all the time, until those listening to them, and the liars themselves, started believing them. There really was no way to tell if it was the truth if it got that far, because for all concerned the seemingly harmless mistruth was the truth.
In fact, Will still couldn't tell when a Pirate was or was not lying most of the time; even after spending close to eighteen months with an entire crew of them, and sharing the bed of the Captain for that entire length of time.
And if you wanted to get really technical, he could only tell when Jack was lying, and that only when it directly concerned him. Of course, Will thought that an accomplishment in and of itself, but that was a bit beside the point.
It was in the gestures, you see.
Just the little things; like how Jack would casually brush a hand over Wills' hip as he walked past, or how he would tug at one of Wills' curls after he had teased him. Or how Jack would kiss him – softly and sweetly – after he had thoroughly fucked him until Will was sure he was seeing stars, and wouldn't be able to walk for a week. Or even how when Jack was pissed to the point of oblivion, and Will would be left to cart him back to the ship, Jack would lean on him, and affectionately nuzzle his neck. That he reeked of sweat and rum never seemed to matter then.
So when Jack finally worked up the courage to say "I love you," (in a very convoluted way that only made sense if you twisted your head sideways and squinted at it through the corner of your eyes, and in a manner that clearly said he was teasing), Will just smiled, and kissed him, and whispered, "I know."
He had known for a while, actually, and was just waiting for Jack to admit to it so he could finally whisper those three words back (in a far less convoluted way than Jack went about doing it, of course).
And so what if Will still didn't know how to tell when a pirate was lying? He could tell when Jack was telling the truth, and in his opinion, that was all that mattered.
It's all in the gestures, you see; just the little ones.
