Renji groaned. His desk was piled with paperwork. That was probably the price of leaving it till the last minute. And on top of that he had to do the captain's paperwork as well. Renji leaned back in his chair, his eyelids drooping weary from the mountain of files. It had been a month since Captain Kuchiki's death and Renji had been struggling to cope. The hours had grown longer and Renji barely slept. His strength was drained within a few hours and Renji often collapsed. It shocked him how weak he was. His appearance was also changing. Renji watched himself drift away, dissolving into nothing. He no longer had a purpose, no one to fight to get stronger. A mere ghost of his former self. He sank deep in his chair.
"Lieutenant Abarai?" said Richi's uncertain voice at the door.
"Come in," Renji mumbled tonelessly.
"Um, excuse me lieutenant I have an important message," Richi reported.
"Oh?"
"Yes. Squad 6 has a new Captain."
Renji sat up, shock etching itself onto his face.
"Oh, really? Who is it?"
"Err… well you know her."
"It's a she?"
"Yes. Lieutenant Abarai, meet our new captain."
Richi stepped aside, to reveal a tall, large breasted woman. Renji's jaw dropped.
"Hello, Renji. My god, what have you done to yourself?"
It was Georgia. The love of his life, his beloved Georgia, was his Captain. She looked stunning in her Captain's harai. Her long brown hair was tied in the usual braid down her back and her blue eyes were alight with life. Her gaze fell on him and her face turned into a face of agony.
"Jesus, Renji has it been that bad for you?!" she exclaimed, rushing toward him. The bewildered Renji struggled to find words. What the hell where you supposed to say when your girlfriend was now your superior?
"W-what the hell?" Renji stammered. "Georgia, how did you become Captain?"
Richi let out a strangled gasp and Georgia raised her eyebrows.
"Err… I mean Captain?" Renji corrected.
Her beautiful eyes regarded him for moment, before replying.
" The Head-Captain asked me," she said, simply. "I agreed. I'm ready to make my life here… with you."
He moved his hand up to stroke her cheek but a cold look in her eyes made him freeze.
Georgia waved a hand at Richi.
"Thank you, Richi you can go now."
Richi bowed and flashed a quick grin at Renji, before sliding the door shut.
Georgia turned to him, a sweet smile lighting up her face.
"You know you don't have to call me Captain," Georgia murmured softly, her lips an inch away from his.
"I know."
As soon as her lips touched his, he had a purpose again, a reason to live. He would die to serve this beautiful creature, who stole his heart. He returned the passion, and love in the kiss, working his hand up her neck. They broke apart and he stared into her beautiful blue orbs.
"Thank you," he whispered. "You have given me life once again."
"Hey," Georgia said, pulling away from him. "Mind if I take the Captain's paperwork?"
"God, no!" Renji cried. "I'm glad to the paper's ass out of here!"
"Good," Georgia giggled, picking up the stack of files. "See you later Lieutenant."
"See you later, Captain."
