Avatar Korra sat still in front of the spirits. Somehow she had ended up in the spirit world after the giant waterborne spirit had tried to devour her whole. She faced men and women gathered over numerous generations, only recognizing a few of them.

"Aang..." she muttered. The past Avatar had a smile glued to his bearded face as he looked down at her.

"These guys are Avatars." a voice said behind her. Korra had believed herself to be alone. When she turned, she saw none other than Kuzan, a friend she had recently befriended in Republic City during the time of Amon. He was gaping like a fish, amazed at the sight before them.

"Wait, how do you know these guys?" Korra asked, confused to see another- who wasn't Tenzin, the son of Avatar Aang- who knew of the past Avatars.

"Its his job, Korra." Aang said with a grin. "And its about time you truly know about it. Its time to learn about the Dragons."

Korra stood up to face him better. "Dragons? You mean the ones that the Fire Nation wiped out?"

"The Dragons have been by the Avatar's side since the first one," an unknown Avatar stated from the back with a ghostly echo.

"Whether in the shadows," another said.

"Or in the light,"
"They're always there for us." they finished together.

Korra looked around. There were new faces turning up among the crowd of Avatars. Some were old, some were young. She couldn't quite place where they were from because their garb was always a mix of a few nations. Aang sensed her confusion quickly.

"Dragons are special benders with the ability to master more than one element, but no more than two. The same spirit that inhabits the Avatar originally inhabited the Dragon before any titles were given to either two. Then there's the animal guides that rests within each Dragon, much like the Avatar's. I had Appa for example, but I also had a Dragon who belonged to a pack of Fire Wolves."

"This is all so cool," Korra exclaimed, but couldn't help but question the boy behind her. He looked at her with a chilled expression that said "Yep, and I'm your Dragon.". Or perhaps it was truly him communicating with her in her mind. Did they also has the power of telepathy?

"To understand how it is now, you must understand how it was before the age of Avatars."
