I consider it a necessity to go to school. Of course it's a necessity, because what else do you know? I know the Ionian farmlands like their kids to be around so that things get done without having to rely on Piltoverian machinery (damn those premium prices). Somehow, I feel lucky to go to school, to be granted the chance to learn where my father did not, to see beyond the Zhu Quai valley of my birth.
I am privileged to be given the chance I have. Yet, somehow, something irks me in the back of my mind. Something that pulls me out of the laughter and the fun of it all. Something I have no words for.
The local priest told me I had great talent, yet it feels like I have no such talent. I can barely control myself sometimes, to the point where the entire village had to vacate up the valley in fear of this awful power. This power I cannot control.
"Everyone," Mrs. Wetcher started, "Today we have a new transfer student, all the way from Ionia. Come in and introduce yourself."
I opened the inward swinging door. Taking the chalk, I transcribed my name in Common Ionian characters.
"H-Hello, my name is Henkao Syndra des-..."
Oh no, I'm not even sure if they'll understand that my name is not Syndradesu.
"Henkao, there's an open seat next to Sivir over there."
I felt the glares of the twenty four students burning daggers into me. This is way too embarrassing! Not like I can reply back either to Ms… what. I FORGOT THE TEACHERS NAME! NO NO NO NO! Uwaaaaaa~!
"Hey, uhh… Ms Wetcher?"
"What is it now, Ahri?"
"Her name's Syndra, not Henkao."
"Not Syndrades?"
"It's 'Desu', which is like trying to be polite in Ionian. Also some places in Ionia swap around the first and last names."
"You're Syndra Henkao then?" Ms. Wetcher asked, turning to Syndra.
Syndra just nodded.
"Good, take your seat over by Sivir then."
Syndra walked through the 6 by 4 seat classroom to 5x3, where Sivir was 6x3. Behind her in the 4/5/6x4 setup sat Jayce, Ekko and Lucian respectively. Ahri was 2x1, literally the other side of the class and surrounded on all fronts by boys save for the big breasted Sona in 2x2.
Damn.
As Syndra sat down, Sivir removed her closest earbud that blared out cookie-cutter metal and said "Hey."
That was the only interaction they had for first three months.
