Shadowrun Dragonfall Story
The lights of the Kreubazar shone into the sky, speeder bikes shooting along the streets as Shadow watched from above, cybernetic enhancements glinting in the dim light. A figure approached him over the rooftop, cybernetic enhanced legs easily leaping over hurdles and the edges of buildings. Glory sunk down next to him, speaking softly as he contemplated the people below. "It's hard isn't it? Having nothing to do now that Vauclair is dead?"
Shadow nodded, speaking as he saw the homeless enter the front doors of the Shadow Medical Center, guards keeping an eye out for Humanis goons. "It's hard to find something new that can match up to what we fought. When you fight a dragon and its master, it's hard to find ways to help the populace, when the very sight of them reminds you of what you lost. "
Glory came to a conclusion, and spoke, as she glanced over at Shadow, the cyber enhancements on his ears glinting. "You cared for her more than just a friend didn't you?"
"Yeah. When she contacted me, I felt hope to be working by her side again, fighting the enemies of freedom. When she died, I felt lost, aimless."
"And then the whole Vauclair thing started, consuming all your willpower and preventing you from dwelling on it. "
"Exactly." Shadow sighed, watching the lights of the buildings play against the night above them.
"And now that it's done, you realize that without her there's nothing left for you. "Glory stopped speaking as she realized Shadow had gone into his own world, dead to the world for a moment.
Shadow realized she had stopped talking and glanced over, taking in her expression as he rested against the roof tiles, the two of them talking softly to each other as friends truly lost in the world without each other. He spoke, mind adrift in the idea of what they might have been in another world.
"Glory, what would we be like if there was no Kreubazar and you never worked with Harrow?"
She spoke, derisive in speculating. "I would be a person on the streets, getting high on the latest thing, and you would be a shadowy agent for Aztechnology or some other firm."
Shadow responded, "Perhaps. Or you might actually be happy with the girl that saved you, and I might be a shadowrunner hunting for the next big thing. "
Glory spoke, getting off her knees and extending a hand down to Shadow. "I'm done with speculating. Let's do something instead of being mournful. "
Shadow took the hand and stood as well, pulling her into a hug as he rose. Glory stiffened in surprise, then slowly relaxed, accepting the silent gesture of affirmation as Shadow released the hug and stepped back, grabbing his shotgun from next to him, Glory wiping away small tears with the back of her hand as she grabbed her pistol, clipping it to her side as they dashed together across the rooftops, vanishing into the night.
