Bedtime

Akiko's PoV

My eyes welled as I rewatched the season finale for Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist, as the Pharaoh went back to Egypt. I couldn't STAND it when the ending to an anime was heartwarming and sad! Damn you, Kazuki Takahashi-sensei! I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Kiko-chan, shouldn't you be going to bed right now?" I heard L ask.

I glared at him out the corner of my eye and turned back to the screen of my laptop. "I wouldn't suggest interrupting her when she's watching anime, L-sama," Yumi-chan said. "She can get violent really easily."

Knowing L, he had put his thumb in his mouth, like a child. "Is that so? Well, either way, it's past her bedtime."

I glared at him as the ending theme played a few minutes later. "I'm 21, a legal adult, and can do whatever the hell I want. If I want to cry and fangirl over an anime series about a children's card game, then so be it. To each his own."

He raised his hands in surrender. "I know, I'm perfectly aware of it, in fact. I just thought that you'd want me to let you know that I'm closing up for today. You should get home."

I shook my head. "I'm not going home until Yumi-chan does."

"Yumi-chan left three hours ago. I was just on the phone with her."

"Oh…" I deliberated. "Well, could you drive me home?" I asked, giving him the best puppy-dog eyes I could manage. They weren't as good as Yumi-chan's, but they got the job done.

"No," he said, appearing entirely unemotional. "I would get arrested for the way I sit. We can get a cab though."

"Hmm…sure." I muttered, shutting down my laptop and checking my phone. "Oh shit… it's way past my bedtime…"

L rolled his eyes but followed me wordlessly, hugging me.
