I know, I know, it's late and it's short. . Sorry.

This is what happens when Senioritis spreads beyond schoolwork…

Anyway, I own only my OCs.

The smell of something burning made Tania's nostrils twitch as she woke up slowly. What was that? It smelled like… like someone was burning breakfast. She bolted upright and grabbed her robe, pulling it around herself as she rushed into the kitchen, where she could hear two familiar voice arguing.

"I don't think it's supposed to do that," her husband's voice grumbled.

"That's why I told you not to cook it so long!" her fourteen-year-old daughter replied, exasperated.

Tania stopped in the doorway and couldn't help laughing. Shizuo and Rimiko were eyeing each other and the charred mess on the stove in frustration. They looked up when they heard her laughter, and their expressions turned sheepish. They looked so much alike at that moment, their caramel eyes nervous and their dyed blond hair slightly frizzed from the heat.

"Morning, Ani," Shizuo sighed. Tania kept laughing.

"You two…"

"Jeez, mom, you don't have to rub it in," Rimiko grumbled. Tania's laughter became more of a snicker as she shook her head.

"What on earth made you two decide to try to cook after the last time?" she asked.

"It's Mother's Day," Rimiko answered. Tania blinked, no longer laughing. She had completely forgotten.

"Oh," was all she said, studying the ruined food with new interest. Shizuo sighed and smiled slightly. For a teacher who moonlighted as a sharpshooter, his wife could be forgetful about some things.

"Anyway…" Rimiko moved over to the table and reached under it. She pulled a small box out. "Here you go, Mom." Tania blinked again and took the small object. "Open it," the teen urged. Her mother obeyed, opening the box and removing the sole contents: a slip of paper. The teacher read the paper and blinked.

'Dear Mom, for Mother's Day, you get a break from being a mom. I'm staying with Aunt Arlua next weekend, and you and Dad get to do whatever you want. I also convinced Uncle Supai to help me replenish your store of ammunition.

Love, Rimiko'

Tania grinned and raised an eyebrow at her husband.

"This says you and I get to do whatever I want, Zuo," she murmured slyly. Rimiko rolled her eyes as Shizuo's cheeks took on just the slightest red tint.

"Happy Mother's Day," Rimiko said cheerfully, hugging her mom. Tania hugged back, but her attention – and what appeared to be the beginnings of a smirk – was still directed at Shizuo.

"Thank you, Rimi-chan," she grinned. Then she glanced at the charred mess. "You two help me clean this up, and then we'll go out for breakfast, okay?"
