Title: Make Things Right
Summary: The reason why Klaus wanted Elena to choose Stefan had nothing to do with the fact that he liked him more. Klaus wanted to make up for the wrong he had done a thousand years before to his own brother. Oneshot. Mentions of Delena, Stelena, Klaus/Tatia, Elijah/Tatia.
Disclaimer: I will probably never own VD... although I do hope I'm wrong...
Please review, although flames are no appreciated. Just letting you know this is just something I thought up, and I am a Delena supporter ;) No hard feelings?
Klaus desperately wanted Elena to choose Stefan over his brother.
Not because he liked Stefan.
Not because of their time spent together in Chicago.
No, it was because Stefan reminded him terribly of Elijah.
And Klaus knew that Elijah should have won Tatia's hand all those centuries before.
Tatia and Elijah had been the best of friends, she was the same age as Finn, born two years after Elijah and three years before Klaus. They had met as children and been inseperable ever since.
Elijah had fallen for Tatia when she turned sixteen years old, but had been too shy to comment on his feelings, he did not feel Tatia would ever return his love, not in the way that he wanted. He did not want to ruin their friendship, so he had stayed silent.
When Elijah was twenty five Tatia met a travelling man by the name of William, after a sparkling night of passion she fell pregnant with his child. William fled the moment he heard the news and no one heard from him ever again.
Klaus, who had just turned twenty, was a good friend of Tatia's, he did what he could to help her but he hadn't been there like Elijah had. Countless hours he sat at Tatia's bedside as it grew closer to the baby's due date. He comforted her, promised that she would never be alone. After her daughter was born Elijah had been there like a father, although Tatia had never said anything.
When Klaus was twenty two years old he had fallen for the beautiful woman. He knew perfectly well that Elijah was finally going to ask Tatia's hand in marriage, but being the reckless, unthinking boy that he was he had ignored it. He had betrayed his brother and charmed Tatia with his fancy words and mischievous smile.
He had snatched Tatia from Elijah's hands like a thief, he had taken her heart and torn it in two, forcing her to choose between the two of them.
And Tatia couldn't. She could never make the choice that would destroy the bond the two brothers had, had previously. She knew that no matter what truces or agreements the two made, once she made her choice the other would be left broken-hearted.
He had been selfish... he hadn't deserved her.
Elijah should have gone on to live happily ever after with his beloved wife and adopted daughter. He would have had children of his own, he would have grown old, taught his own children what his father had taught him. It was what he had always wanted but could never have.
So Klaus had lived with that guilt.
For a thousand years he had to look into his brother's eyes and know that he had destroyed the only chance of true happiness he could have ever had.
So he wouldn't let it happen again.
This time he would make sure it would go right.
Elena had to choose Stefan.
Because Klaus knew that he had never deserved her to begin with...
Hope you enjoyed it :) Please no flames, this is NOT a shot at Damon because I AM a Delena supporter :) This was just something I thought up when a friend of mine commented that The Original brothers and the Salvatore's were really similar! Maybe I'll write up a fic to go with this, where the brothers fight or something... I don't know.
