The clouds are dark, the sky is low.
It is coming.
The inevitable downpour.
On unbearable summer days, only rain gives momentary respite. It may cleanse the mirth of the road or wash down the long fallen branches of trees. The sudden sound of it falling down can stir up your soul.

It wasn't always like this. But since that first flash of light with the boom that followed shortly after, right after I realized she was no longer of this world, my world was never the same.

A flash of light illuminates the sky. I gasp and cover my ears, but the thunder is loud, too loud.
I scream helplessly.
I don't want to be alone.
But deep down, even if it may seem childish and my effort is futile, I wish I can scream for her instead.
Mother ...
A/N: This was something I did for saiun_challenge on Week 24. The theme was (you may have guessed) Rain. When I saw the theme, it was Shuurei who first came to mind. It's pretty straightforward.
Just in case the [font] style of some words here come into question, the italicized ones are those that she speaks.
