The large cassette tape deck sat on the rock, silently waiting. Full darkness had fallen, billions of stars sparkling in the sky above them. It was times like these when he could understand how humans had become such a dreaming species. Looking up into the stars, something one couldn't of done on Cybertron until recently, made one think of things bigger, and much more different then usual.
A noise made the Cassette Player twitch in anticipation. His mate had managed to slip the information that he would meet him here during the last batch of information one of his children managed to snatch. His creation had confirmed it was indeed his mate, and all of them had wanted to accompany him here.
It was impossible, unfortunately. If all of them had come, they would've gotten bored long before, and the mech knew how hard it would be for his mate to tear himself away and come out.
The rumbling on an engine came to his auditory receptors distinctly, and he transformed, optics attempting to pierce the night. A dark shape hurtled out of nowhere, both arms wrapping around him. "Soundwave! Thank Primus you're all right! I almost gave up hope after we lost contact with the ship!"
Soundwave awkwardly patted his mate on the back, wincing. He had thought this would happen. Though he could well sympathize with his mate, left behind on Cybertron when Megatron had taken off after Optimus Prime. Both of them had bitterly protested, but his mate had to stay behind to continue passing information, and Soundwave had been needed.
Quietly he gathered the other mech close. "I'm sorry." He murmured.
"Tell me about our creations." The other mech sighed. "Please. They are all ok right?"
"They're all fine." Soundwave comforted the other mech. "They all wanted to come with me, but I wasn't sure if you'd be able to come. It's already several orns after the time you specified."
"Yes, I know. I'm sorry. But none of those slagging Autobots would let me leave." The mech mumbled, "They all had to have the latest news from Cybertron, and I was considered one of the best sources, because I am after all what I am."
Soundwave nodded, arms tightening around the other mech. "Are- Are you alright?" He questioned quietly, optics trying to delve into the mechs spark.
A deep, shuddering intake. "Several times I thought I would loose it. After all, I thought for the longest time I had lost you, even though I said otherwise. But, I'm all right. What about you? Being stuck on this planet for all of this timeā¦"
"For the first few million years we were all in stasis lock." Soundwave murmured. It hadn't been half as bad for him. As much as he had missed his mate, he had only to deal with it for a few human years. His mate had dealt with the emptiness and silence and worry of several million years. "After that-" Words failed him, unable to express the loneliness he had felt.
But he had the cassettes, and that alone kept him occupied. The other would've been forced to immerse himself in his work, and judging from the reports from Shockwave, he had immersed himself so well; they had nearly overrun Autobots on Cybertron.
Arms tightened passively around him once, before the mech pulled back with a sigh. "I-I had better get back. They might start looking for me soon."
Soundwave nodded, and the mech took a step back, blue optics glinting in the light for a single moment, before the mech turned to go. Before Soundwave could stop himself, he reached out, and turned the other around to place a kiss on the surprised lips.
"Be safe Red Alert. I will be waiting eagerly for our next meeting."
a/n: Yay! I tried this pairing again, and I hope I did a better job at it.
