"Dad?" Pete had said, asking if it were okay to call him that.

"Not quite yet. You have to actually marry my daughter before you can call me that." He stated firmly. He saw that Sam thought him harsh – heck, that's just the way he was.

Give him a chance? Advised Selmak. Then Pete was speaking again.

"So you have one of those things inside your head?"

How disrespectful...! Selmak began, inside his head, but Jacob had started to speak already, cutting her off.

"If by 'thing' you mean a thousand year old Tok'ra symbiote." Jacob stated flatly, and felt Selmak's approval. It was perfect- putting him in his place without being overly aggressive.

She would have told him everything once he got clearance, especially about us. What an ignorant man. She voiced indignantly inside Jacob's head.

Geez, don't hold back, thought Jacob. It surprised him a little, because she wasn't usually so forward. But he was smiling on the inside and she felt it.

Oh, Jacob. Samantha's embarrassed for him.

Sam had grimaced and Pete had fallen to babbling at this look on her face. As quickly as they came they were gone.

As far as first impressions go? I hate him. He said bluntly. He's not good enough for my daughter.

Spoken like a true father. Selmak radiated a touch of amusement. She had seen that one coming. And yet I have to agree with you. Surely Samantha deserves someone... more? Description seemed to have failed her. You know we can't say anything... she said tentatively.

Selmak had liked Sam immediately upon meeting her, and her opinion had only increased with blending. Understanding Jacob's memories of her contributed- biased as they were. In his head, she was perfect.

Pete Shanahan seems... What is your amusing term? A tool? Perhaps a... knob? Selmak tried to lighten him up.

I don't care. He's not good enough. Jacob replied, still unspoken.

...Mrs Shanahan.

Jacob felt sympathy from her. For once, she wasn't tempering his erratic or, well hell, often unjustified belittling opinions of most people he met. She agreed with him.

Meanwhile, in Jack's head...

If it ever worked out with Carter and me... Jacob and a snake would be my father... Fathers?... In law.

Yeesh.
