When Rachel left, a piece of Kurt left with her. When Finn left, Kurt found himself relieved. Now, it was just he, his dad and Carol. It was almost like it had been for most of Kurt's life, except for Carol. It was more than a little lonely, and Kurt found himself understanding Blaine's fears of being alone.

Even though Kurt wasn't alone, he felt it. He found himself out late, on the football field at McKinley, kicking field goals. Blaine's love of football had started rubbing off on him. A little. Kurt could confidently say, though, that football had been in his life before Blaine, too.

He kicked again and again until fire shot through his leg. He'd thought it was good pain until he tried to walk and ended up limping to his car. He managed to drive the distance to Blaine's house and knocked on the door. Blaine's father, as usual, didn't look him in the eye, just left the door ajar and walked away.

"Kurt?" Blaine asked. "What's wrong?"

Blaine wasted no time supporting Kurt and walking with him over to the bed. "I'm not sure," he gasped. "I think I sprained something."

"What were you doing?"

"Kicking field goals," Kurt shrugged.

"Why?" Blaine asked, clearly confused.

Kurt winced. "I needed to blow off steam."

"Hold tight. I'll be right back," Blaine insisted, after helping Kurt get settled and propping pillows beneath his kicking leg.

Distantly, Kurt made out the sound of Mr. Anderson berating Blaine and telling him that his bedroom door better not be closed tonight because that wasn't the way they did things in this house.

Moments later, Blaine came back, ice in hand. "Sorry about that," he apologized, smiling reflexively. He gave the ice to Kurt and let him put it in the right places, casting nervous glances at his open bedroom door.

"Thanks," Kurt managed.

"I try to tell him," Blaine said, as though Kurt hadn't spoken at all. "I try," he lowered his voice. "But he won't listen. He doesn't care about all the crap you went through at school or how much I tell him that I love you and that shouldn't change anything about our relationship. But who am I kidding? It changes everything…" Blaine sighed. "So, why were you blowing off steam?" Blaine asked, carefully turning the conversation back to Kurt.

"I'm mad at Finn…and I miss Rachel…" Kurt admitted softly.

"Well…" Blaine offered his hand, smiling. "You still have me."
