Half Death Day
Characters: Danny, Tucker, and Sam
Written: April 2013
Summary: Nine years after the incident, Tucker and Sam take time out of their busy lives to visit Danny. (Anniversary ficlet written for akiwitch.)
Danny glanced at the calendar as he brought the mug of coffee to his mouth. The date glared at him, and he was glad for it being Saturday so that he didn't have to bother with classes. He sighed, lowering his mug without having taken a sip. His roommate was out for the day, work or taking his girlfriend somewhere or something else. He didn't fully pay attention to what the man said when he hurried out of their apartment.
Sleep. Sleep sounded like a good idea at that moment. He didn't really feel like doing anything today beyond curling up in bed and drawing his covers over him and pretending like today didn't even exist. Leaving the mug on the counter, he headed for his bedroom until he heard a knock on the door. His eyes shot toward the door, narrowing as he wonder who would be bothering him today. Heaving a sigh, he made his way over to the door and opened it.
"What are you guys doing here?" Danny asked as Tucker and Sam forced their way into the apartment. He closed the door, surprised and confused about their visit. They usually had such a busy schedule that the three of them didn't get to hang out together as often as they used to in high school.
"You alone?" Sam glanced around the apartment, ignoring Danny's question.
"Yeah," Danny answered as his brow creased and he gave them a puzzled look.
Tucker and Sam turned on him with wide grins on their faces. "Happy ninth!" they exclaimed together, lifting the lid of the box they held between them.
"Happy ninth?" Danny repeated, even more confused as his gaze lowered to what was in the box. It was a cake coated in vibrant green icing and shaped like a ghost. Written in black icing was "Happy Half Death Day!" with his DP logo done in white icing underneath it. "Really you guys?" Danny looked up at them questioningly.
"Oh, come on, Danny!" Tucker said as Sam carried the cake to the kitchen. He threw an arm around Danny's shoulders as he guided his friend to the kitchen. "This is something to celebrate. It's been nine years since you got your ghost powers."
"Yeah, Danny." Sam grinned as she cut pieces from the cake for each of them. "I know things haven't always been that great. You've had some rough times because of being Danny Phantom. But would you give all of it up?"
There were times when Danny really felt like he would be better off with his powers. But as his gaze drifted between Tucker and Sam, Danny found he really wouldn't give up all the experiences they've been through in the past nine years for anything. They were the best times of his life, even if the cost was a few terrifying hiccups with evil ghosts. "Monster movie marathon?"
With a cheer of agreement, Tucker and Sam grabbed their slices of a cake and dragged Danny into the other room to settle on the couch and start the first movie. Danny relaxed back against the couch, shoving a forkful of cake into his mouth. A grin spread onto his face. He could always count on his faces to drag him out of a brief spell of depression.
Happy Danniversary, everyone! =D Just a short little ficlet to celebrate nine years of Danny Phantom~
