Hey everyone! This is like, my first attempt at writing a story. This one is a short one-shot that I made for a Percy Jackson group in Facebook. Sorry if it sucks, but anyways, here it is.
The year was 1348. Percy had just gotten back from a very long trip in Italy and couldn't wait to see his beloved Annabeth. They have known each other since they were little kids, running in the dirty streets of London. Annabeth's father had already given them his blessing to get married, and they were just waiting for Percy to arrive. But they didn't know that he was bringing death with him.
William Solace was a young physician, just starting his career. Even as a child, he knew that his fate was to help people, and that's why he became a doctor. He knew that medicine was not even close to be good, and a lot of times the best thing he could do for his patients was praying for their souls. But that didn't stop him from doing his best, so when he received the news that a lethal disease - that most people took as being a punishment from God - had arrived in his country, Will was determined to help his people.
Percy and Annabeth were having dinner with their families a week after his arrival. Their wedding was going to happen in two weeks, and the two lovers couldn't wait to live their lives together, have children and grow old together. Later that evening, they went to see the stars, under the supervision of Annabeth's father, of course.
"The stars are really beautiful tonight, my love. Don't you agree?" Percy said with his eyes shining.
"Indeed. I can't believe we are finally getting married, I want to live my life by your side." Annabeth said, looking at her soon-to-be husband with love in her eyes.
"You are the love of my life. I could do anything just to be by your side, and to deserve your love." Percy told his true love. Annabeth then gave the declaration:
"I would die for you."
"Don't say that, Annie. I'm not able to live without you."
"You won't have to, Perce." Annabeth reassured him.
"Alright, lovebirds. It is time for you to come in. Percy, what is that on your neck? Looks like a tumor." Annabeth's father, Frederick, asked in confusion.
"I don't know, sir. I didn't notice before, but it is getting a little painful, I guess." Percy answered honestly, putting his hand on his neck.
"Well, you should see doctor William Solace, I heard there is a plague coming this way." Frederick said, and the three of them went back to the house.
The next day, Percy went to see doctor Will, and was shocked to see the amount of people dying with the new disease. They all had very swollen and dark lymph nodes on their bodies; all of them looked like they were about to die.
"People are calling it The Black Death. I have never seen a disease kill so many so fast." Will said that to his assistant, frowning when he saw Percy entering the building.
"Good morning, sir. Can you take a look at my neck?" Asked Percy. Will nodded, and the man came closer. After examining him, Will told him the bad news.
"You have the plague, sir. I'm so sorry."
"Can you do something to help me? Anything? Is that any cure?" Percy asked with fear in his voice.
"I'm sorry, sir. There is only so much I can do, and I haven't yet found a cure. But don't lose hope. I think you can cure yourself using some types of condiments, though it is only an experiment.
"I will do it!" Percy exclaimed. Will told him what he had to do and the young man walked back home, terrified for his life as he saw the amount of corpses in the street.
The day after, Annabeth came running to his house. My parents are dying, she said. I can't do anything but watch and pray.
He wanted to comfort her, but he had to stay away. Little did he know, she got the plague.
Annabeth was coughing like crazy. When Percy went to her house, he didn't expect the love of his life to be with a high fever and coughing with blood. He tried to do the same things doctor William had taught him, since he was not that sick, so it had to be working. But it didn't work with Annabeth. She was dying, and they knew it.
"Percy, promise me you will move on with your life. When I go to where no one has ever came back from, you will find love again." Annabeth pleaded.
"I - I can't, Annabeth!" Percy cried out.
"Please, Perce. Promise me this, so I can die in peace."
"O-okay Annie. I promise. But I will never forget you. I love you."
"I love you." And with those last words, Annabeth left the world of the living. Percy cried desperately until he fell asleep.
Will ended up catching the plague. Percy showed up in his place, looking miserable. He stood there, seeing the end of the world. Seeing the doctor in bad condition, he decided to wander around the world, waiting for the day he would meet Annabeth again.
Dr. William Solace survived. Against all odds, he could cure himself, and spent the rest of his life helping people, even when the plague disappeared.
