"How had this all gone wrong?" wondered Alex.
He saw the palace burning, mages and knights being cut down from the weapons held in their former subjects' hands. The screams of the nobles as they were slain mingled with the roars of the rifles being used to kill them. In the palace square, there was a bonfire, a burning a pile of wands who will never be used again.
Cries of "Down with the aristocracy! Hooray for democracy! All men are equal!" Rang throughout the air, springing from the throats of men as they pillaged and burned the nobles' belongings.
Despite the fact that he had overthrown the nobles and overthrown the monarchy, despite the fact that he had developed a technological revolution, he felt as if something was wrong.
It had all started when he had fallen into that damn portal. When he finally came to, he had found himself on a giant pentagram. With a pinkette with a wand staring down at him.
He knew where he was. That harem anime with the pinkette and arrogant nobles.
He was pissed that he was thrown into this backwater.
But then…..
"Hey!" He thought: "I can uplift this situation! Maybe give technology a big boost and help improve the lives of commoners! And maybe I can talk about human rights, and maybe start a democracy!"
It had all started well. He had beaten the enemies, thus gaining credibility with the queen. He then began to start spreading his ideas. Steam engines, greater weapons, soap, washing, hygiene. He probably wouldn't be able to bring it up to Earth level, but it was a start.
Problem was the other things. Things like human rights, democracy, and freedom of speech. Some people had heard it, and wanted in.
He didn't know how it started, but it did. Maybe there was a riot. Maybe there was a misuse of power by a noble. Maybe someone just wanted to overthrow their superior. In the end, there was chaos.
Group after group of peasants had over thrown their nobles, emboldened by the concept of equality, democracy, and human rights.
*flashback ends*
In the end, they had been beaten back. The knights, along with the noble forces and army, had defeated the disorganized rebel army.
But the damage had been done.
As he was the familiar of Louise Valliere, all he had done had fallen upon her. Although it wasn't his intention, his ideas had helped cause the rebellion. Many had died due to the guns, and hence the majority of the nobility bayed for her blood.
Henrietta had no choice.
The last he saw of louise was her being led away in chains for being party to treason. Her association with the Valliere name meant that, along with the Valliere's strength and links to the throne, had caused them to be viewed with suspicion. It wasn't enough to convict them, but it made times much, much harder. It would be a long time before they were trusted again.
Peasants were now distrusted and feared and hated. Many had called for policies to stamp down on them, to 'show them their place'. The musketeer corps had disbanded, and the rule of Tristain and other countries had overall become more oppressive, in view of the rebellion. Technology now had a bad reputation as a harbinger for disaster and social unrest.
Siesta and her family, along with the people of the charming fairies inn, had died in the rebellion. The rebels had hid in Tarbes. The royals took no prisoners.
Cattleya, due to the stress placed upon her family, as well as the loss of Louise destroying her willpower, had become weakened.
She passed away soon after.
Guiche had died, cut down by gunfire.
The peasants were too young. Too uneducated. They had probably set the human rights revolution back by several centuries.
Now, Alex was left in this cell to rot, for 'subversive activities against the crown'
Authors note: Ok, grimdark. Tell me if I did anything wrong.
