Quinn Fabray was only mildly intoxicated when she presses her lips to Rachel Berry's who gently but firmly pushes her away. "Quinn."
She didn't act it but she was alert, wide awake and ungodly sober when she laughs, stands up from the – despite Rachel's (such Rachel-like) rejection – holy grail of couches and heads out the backyard where she drinks everything that's handed to her before hiding out in a corner for the rest of the evening trying desperately to forget that she finally, finally, gathered enough courage to kiss Rachel Berry only to be shot down not even a second later. Maybe she smelled too much of vodka. The thought only lingered for a second before she pushes it out of her head because it happened. All of it.
Quinn wakes up in Puck's room – no doubt from the posters of half-naked women plastered to one whole wall, practically – with Santana and Brittany snuggled in each other beside her on Noah Puckerman's queen size bed.
"Hey, you're awake."
The thought of pretending to go back to sleep is suddenly front and center in Quinn's brain the second she hears Rachel's voice. But she figures she can fare better pretending it never happened than avoiding the girl.
"Did you sleep on that window seat all night, Rachel?"
"It wasn't as uncomfortable as I anticipated…"
She thinks she hmmed before an uncomfortable silence settles over them for what seems like forever but in actuality is only 3 seconds…
"Quinn.."
Quinn pulls back the covers, scrunches up her nose when she realized she slept in her jeans and her back actually hurts and…
"Quinn." Firmly, this time.
"Jesus, it's past 9. I have to go home, my mom is –" was all Quinn managed to say before she was pulling open Noah Puckerman's bedroom door –
"Quinn." Rachel whispers, barely-audible. And she sounds so defeated, so tired that Quinn didn't have the heart to just leave despite everything in her telling her she should.
Pretend it never happened. "Are you okay? I- is something wrong?" she says after she maneuvers herself so her back was to the door she was pulling open only a second before.
Rachel Berry looks up at her and Quinn fights hard not to flinch or look away. Rachel looks intensely at her face before something settles and she says "No, uh, I'll walk out with you, if you don't mind."
She does, but not for the reason Rachel would think if she said that out loud, so she doesn't.
