A Proposal: A Fax Story
This moment couldn't have been more perfect.
I was snuggled up against Fang in the cave, surrounded by warm candles. Fang had surprised me with a romantic getaway. He had placed various candles all around the cave, illuminating us in an array of colors. Outside, the night sky was a beautiful dark blue, sprinkled with thousands of breathtaking stars. Fang had set up a midnight feast for us, made up of my all-time favorite foods.
"This is perfect," I whispered against his lips as he kissed me. "I love this. I love you for doing this."
He smiled, kissing my neck. He knew I loved it when he did that. I sighed in ecstasy, wrapping my arms tighter around him.
"You're beautiful, you know that?" he said, scratching my back between my wings. "Absolutely beautiful." I blushed and nestled into his chest. He kissed the top of my head and ran his hands down my sides, making me shiver comfortably. Fang kissed me again, and all I could think was that I never wanted to stop. I wanted to be like this forever, in Fang's arms.
We were both seventeen now, and the flock was still with us. We hadn't been attacked or threatened in a while, and I was just beginning to enjoy the peace.
But I knew it couldn't last forever.
"What are you thinking about?" Fang asked suddenly.
"Us. The flock. The usual, you know." I paused to look at him. There was obviously something on his mind. "What are you thinking about?"
He was silent for a while. I had been tracing little patterns on his chest with my finger when he spoke.
"I've been thinking. . ." he said. I waited for him to continue. "Max, I love you. I have always loved you, I will always love you, and that will never change."
My eyes widened, and I was about to speak when he put a finger to my lips. "I want to be with you forever," he whispered. "I want you to be mine forever."
I smiled. "I will be yours forever, Fang," I promised him. "I'll make sure of it."
"Well. . .I want you to be mine in a special way. I want. . . ." He paused and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Fang?" I asked gently.
"I want to marry you, Max," he said suddenly.
Gently, he lifted me up until I was standing. Then he got down on one knee.
I put a hand to my heavily beating heart.
"Oh, God," I whispered as he reached into his pocket.
He presented me with the most gorgeous ring I had ever seen in my entire life. It was a silver wedding band with a beautiful blue sapphire sitting on top.
He knew I loved sapphire.
"Oh, my God," I said again, tears falling down my cheeks.
"Maximum Ride, will you marry me?" he asked.
I almost choked on my words. I was crying silently, smiling through my tears. I managed a small nod, and then finally. . ."Yes. Yes a thousand times."
He smiled and placed the ring on my finger. He stood up, and I stared at the ring once before throwing my arms around his neck and smashing my lips against his.
"I love you," he whispered, smiling as we kissed. He twirled me around, and I giggled.
"I love you, too," I whispered. "More than anything."
