Chapter one: The 21st Century

My name is Laura Spurway and I am 18 years old. I am English and unfortunately the long lost great great great great grand daughter of Alice Kingsley. I am the first in my family to be born without Alice in my name. At the age of 8 I was told I was mad because I wasn't human, they locked me up. But it was because of those stupid stories. I could hear animals talk all the time and I shouldn't have said anything. I mean, it's 2017, I was born 24th March 2001.

My friends have arranged a party for me at my home and I'm not allowed back there until lunch time. Strange. Please don't let Hamish be there! God, if he asks to marry me one more time, I will run away or kill myself.

Finally, lunchtime. I'm wearing a blue dress that was apparently made by the Mad Hatter for Alice Kingsley. Yeah right. But it was beautiful, I had curled my hair a bit. Alice Kingsley, everyone else was dressing up as if they were at the proposal party which she turned down. Hopefully, not an engagement planned.

The triplets, Kyla, Courtney and Shanelle had come in dresses of green with parasols. Mine was the only blue dress. They huged me and gave me a green parcel. I thanked them and moved on. It kept on like that until I reached Hamish, he just grabbed my arm and told me to meet him at the gazebo, after the dance.

I hate dances, its tedious. In comes my mother, dragging me off.

She hissed at me, "Where is your corset?" Her grip on my arm hurt.

"Codfish, if it were fashion to wear a codfish on your head would you do it?" she nodded and let go, stupid women.

The dance ended and I headed to the Gazebo.

The Gazebo was surrounded by people, my mother, Hamish's mother and father. I looked at the crowd as Hamish kneeled down, took my hands and asked, "Will you marry me?"

My mother's eyes were like daggers telling me to say yes, but I hated him and looked towards the maze. Standing there, well crouching was a white rabbit in a waist coat holding and pocket watch and signalling to me to come one.

I closed my eyes, "I think I, need a moment," I ran after the rabbit to a tree and fell down, down, deep into the darkness.
