What was the point of it all? Why would anyone put themselves through this hell? These thoughts raced through her mind as she clutched Haydon, her ever faithful sandslash to her chest.

It wasn't her fault. She couldn't have known. She just couldn't of. At least, that's what she told herself.

Her face felt hot and wet as tears slid down her cheeks, choked sobs escaping her throat. There was a gentle nudge against her arm, Damien. Gentle, sweet Damien. Her ivysaur. Her starter. She hated for him to see her like this, but he had to finish the battle. Partly for her, but mostly for Haydon.

Memories washed over her as she remember when she caught him. At first she found him to be annoying and snarky. It didn't help that his only offense move had been scratch. But she had needed a ground type, and so there he was, on her team. Never had she thought he would last. It had taken a lot of gentle training at first. Then she found the TM dig and everything changed. He soared through the levels and became engrained in the little rag tag family.

One single battle changed everything. Haydon had almost been at full health. He had the type advantage over the geodude. Sure,it was higher in level, but she was confident in Haydon's abilities. She didn't count on it using magnitude. Twice. It was his downfall. Their downfall.

…And now? Now he was gone. Forever.
