Too Late
Winter
They were waltzing across the dance floor oblivious of the people
around them. She was in an elegant white dress while he was wearing a
traditional black tux, no they are not in a wedding reception but he
wished otherwise as he revel in her beauty. It was a perfect time
for a confession, but he pushed the thought aside as they continued to
dance. Not now he thought maybe later he don't want to spoil his
Christmas.
Spring
The wind was busy tossing cherry blossom petals across the sky while
the graduates are saying farewell to their friends. Spring came as
high school ended. He came to her side and gave her a hug, he would
miss her, terribly. He was going to Tokyo for college while she was to
go to the states for the same purpose. She made him promise to write
to her every single day and she promised to visit him every year, he
agreed, she smiled and hugged him telling him he was the best friend
she ever had. It crossed his mind to confess to her that day; to tell
her everything and just close her lips with his, but then he thought, later
when we meet again.
Summer
She returned home after two years.
She told him how delightful California is and how infernal her studies
were.
He just smiled, unable to talk. The west did wonders to her looks, not
that she used to be ugly, she has always been beautiful, she just got
more beautiful, if that is even possible. She just kept on babbling
about her studies and some boy she met on Cali, he didn't pay
attention because he was busy stopping himself from shutting her up
with a kiss and then begging her to stay. He thought of taking her out
to the beach, prepare a special dinner and then confess but the next
day she left and he felt like he missed his last chance to be with
her. He brushed it off and told himself that the next time she comes
home he will say it.
Autumn
To say that the weather was mirroring his feelings is an
understatement. They were sitting in a cafe watching the rain beat at
the glass window. He was toying with his food trying to distract
himself from the blonde sitting across him. She was going on and on
about flowers, dresses, food, wine and wedding organizers. He just
gave her a grunt and a blank look whenever she asks him if he was ok.
She sighed looked at him with worried eyes and said, "you know kanata,
I've been in love with you for the longest time but you only saw me as
a friend, I thought that I won't be able to move on. " He looked at
her, shock was evident in his eyes. He quickly hid behind his mask and
avoided her eyes and just kept playing with his food. He was right, it
was too late he missed his chances now he regretted it. He never
looked up, but if he did he will see tears trying to escape from the
eyes that he loved so much. They just listened as the autumn sky
continued to cry for them.
