A/N: This would be my take if the character's memories couldn't have been erased at the end of the movie :)

Best Day, Worst Ending

He couldn't believe it, and coming from someone like Phineas that meant a lot.

What are the odds after what would forever be the best day of his young life (after all, it wasn't everyday you learned your so-called-do-nothing-platypus was a secret agent and you traveled throughout several dimensions with him) that this would happen? Sure, when Perry's secret had come to light, Phineas had yelled and pretty much disowned him.

But that didn't mean he actually wanted Perry to leave them.

And what kind of stupid rule was that anyway? If the host family of one of these secret animal agents found out their pet belong to this secret organization, couldn't they help? It didn't make sense for the agent to have to leave forever, especially if the family was willing to keep their secret. It seemed like a small price to pay to keep Perry.

"I'm sorry kids. But rules are rules." Majour Monogram said a understanding as he could, knowing full-well what was going through the boys' heads. We can't risk the safety of your family, you see."

"I..." Phineas drifted off. It made sense, he supposed, but that didn't change the fact it wasn't fair. It's not like they asked to find out Perry's secret, right? It had all just been an accident.

And, besides, Perry was more than just a pet agent. He had been the first thing Phineas and Ferb had done (picked out) together and seemed to be the only thing that never disappeared with some mysterious force like everything else that never came back. He was a part of their family, the reason the boys got so into music, the icon for more than half their inventions.

He was their friend.

The signature chattering sound of Perry drew everyone's attention to the semi-aquatic mammal agent, looking just as torn as the Flynn-Fletcher kids (Candace included). He had always been beloved family pet first, and secret agent second. The boys had always provided Perry with far more than just a cover, but also with affection. Affection he knew he would never replace. Holding out his hand (paw?), Perry handed the boys the an all-too-familiar object.

His locket.

Phineas took it, nodding in understanding. "I know you wouldn't want us to get hurt." Kneeling down, Phineas drew Perry into a hug.

Perry returned the hug, then did the same with Ferb (and even Candace, who claimed something had flown into her eyes at the last second), before waving a final, drawn out farewell and disappearing along with Majour Monogram.

"Look at it this way," Ferb said wisely after a long silence had gone by, placing a hand on his brother's slumping shoulder. "Perry may be gone, but at least our memories remain."

Well, I planned to write more than this but my inspiration died XD So here's the short version :D Please R+R!
