Cactus
By: Asagi Tsuki
Another story I wrote when I was bored in class. I seem to do that a lot lately.
Summary: Kurama wanted to get himself a cactus, and Hiei asked why
Warning: probable OOCness, fluff, shounen ai

I Want A Cactus…
Kurama entered his room and slumped on his bed. He had gone to a flower shop near his house earlier, and went home with nothing at all.
The occasional breeze swept by through the open window of his room, and played with his hair, but he made no move to close it.
After all, he opened it purposefully.
He had noticed Hiei's spirit energy the second he stepped out of his house. He guessed that Hiei was about to stop by, but decided not to when he saw him walk out.
And it was only a matter of time before Hiei came through his window and ask why he looked so down after the short trip to the flower shop.
"Fox."
Now that was faster than he had expected.
"Yes Hiei?" Kurama asked, smiling sweetly at him. He really didn't want to tell Hiei his petty problem, and he was starting to regret looking so down on his way home.
"What did not happen?"
Kurama chuckled at the choice of wording. How so very Hiei.
"I do not have the seed of a cactus, and they ran out of it," Kurama finally said, after much glaring and growling on Hiei's part.
"Cactus?" Hiei asked, taken by surprise.
"Yes, you know, that green plant with needle leaves and-"
"I know what a cactus is," Hiei scowled darkly at Kurama.
"I did not know," Kurama retorted smoothly, and it took Hiei a few seconds to comprehend it, but when he did, he scowled darkly again at him.
After sulking at the corner for a while, Hiei finally asked again, "Why?"
"Why what?" Kurama asked back, a smug smile etched on his face, indicating that he knew what Hiei meant.
"Why cactus?" Hiei elaborated slightly, seemingly not noticing—or at least pretending not to—the smug smile on his face. "There are better plants than cactus."
"Are there really?" Kurama asked again, the smug smile replaced by a gentle smile, and Hiei stared at him, as if asking him what he meant by that.
"Cactus is a strong plant. It survives in the most arid place. It provides drink for those who are lost and nearly died. Moreover, when it blooms, it becomes a very beautiful flower," Kurama explained, and his gaze turned longing for a moment. "I want to be strong, just like a cactus, and having it in my room might help remind me of my goal whenever I enter my room and see it," he finished, telling Hiei why he had gone to the flower shop to buy a cactus.
"Hn. You are strong enough. You don't need that stupid plant," Hiei grunted.
"And," Kurama added, a smile still etched on his face. "It will remind me of you, because you are the only figure strong enough that I deem as strong, beautiful and relieving as a cactus," he said, making Hiei stare at him.
"You let me, who was lost, live longer."
"Hn," Hiei grunted again, and leapt out of the room through the window, leaving Kurama alone.
"See you Hiei," Kurama waved after the disappearing figure and kept silent, before he added as an after thought. "Thank you for the plant."
And as expected, a small pot of cactus sat on his bedside table by the next morning.
To Remind Me of You
That must be the longest fic I wrote on paper before I typed it in my computer. I don't like writing long stories, so the other two were short, but oh well.
I hope you enjoy this one. If you do, leave a comment.
