A/N:-
So, I just watched the last episode of Doctor Who for this series and I immediately decided to start a fanfic for it. I started writing this pretty much straight away. Be warned, IT HAS SPOILERS! If you have not seen SE6 EP7 'A Good Man Goes to War' DO NOT read this book. However, if you have, or if you don't mind spoilers, go ahead! =] Lots of love, Beth x
Prologue
The familiar whirring and grinding of wheezing engines mixed with the impertinent beeping of the alarms.
"Hello sweetie," River breathed. She rushed to the bars of her cell and grasped the cool iron with her free hand. The TARDIS door opened and a tall, floppy-haired man in a tweed jacket and bow-tie stepped out. His eyes fixed immediately upon the frizzy-haired woman and he walked determinedly to her.
They kissed through the bars. It had been so long. Nine months. They had not seen each other for nine long and lonely months. So little had happened and yet there was one significant difference. A baby girl lay sleeping between them.
"Why didn't you tell me?" the Doctor said between kisses, "You're so stupid, Melody Pond, you should have told me!"
She broke apart from his lips to look at him seriously.
"How do you tell a man who you barely see once a year – and that's only if you're lucky – that you are carrying his child?"
He scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Ah…yes…that would make it slightly difficult I suppose."
He looked down lovingly upon his daughter's peaceful face, and smiled.
"You're beautiful," he said softly, and then he brought a hand up to his bow-tie looking affronted, "No, it's cool!" He looked up to River, confused, "Why does everyone always say that?"
River laughed gently and then followed his gaze down to their little girl.
"Her name's Nevaeh," River said, "It's 'heaven' backwards."
"Nevaeh Song," the Doctor tested the name, "Nevaeh Pond. Either way, it's perfect. She's perfect."
"You need to get her out of here, Doctor. This is no place for a child."
"She's your daughter too, River. You could come with us."
"No. No, I can't. I'll be there when my time comes."
The Doctor looked at her closely before she passed the baby through the bars to him. She looked more tired than when he had last seen her. But then, that was what childbirth did to you.
"Okay," he said slowly, holding his child carefully in his arms, "Take care, Melody Pond."
River laughed.
"Do you know me at all?"
