The doctor came out of the tent and I rushed over to him. Then, he said those fateful words. I didn't believe him. I didn't want to believe him. But then I saw the evidence for myself when I walked in that tent.
Ping wasn't a man.
He was a woman.
He, no she, lied to me. Ping. The one who saved my life and was one of the few people I knew without a doubt I could trust my life with. It was just as painful as finding out my father was dead. Now soon, this man- no, woman that he had trusted would be dead too. The law had to be upheld. I took her sword from its sheath, her horse trying to go to its owner's aid. Three of the soldiers that were closest to Ping tried to do the same but Chi-Fu stopped them. I ignored them all so all there was, was me and the girl crouched in the snow.
Looking at her now, I couldn't believe I was so easily fooled. She had such delicate yet strong features, her pale skin gleamed like the moon, and her cheeks were tinted pink from the cold. She truly was as beautiful as she was strong and courageous. But...but the law was the law...right?
I rose the sword to strike her but before I knew what I was doing, I threw it in the snow next to her. She looked up at me but I couldn't look at her. Instead, I looked at the ground next to her. "A life for a life. My debt is repaid," I said before moving the troops out and leaving the girl, Mulan, crouching in the cold snow with nothing but a blanket to keep her warm.
