Ruby and Belle had been busy all day making pies at Granny's for the big Christmas morning rush. People had been coming through every hour to buy Granny's famous pies, and the two girls were completely exhausted. Granny hadn't even made her own famous pies in years.
"I don't think I ever want to even see another pumpkin or apple ever again," Belle sighed, closing the oven.
"I know, but we're actually almost done!" Ruby checked their list. They only had one more batch of pies left, so they got to work. Ruby popped open yet another can of canned pumpkin (they tried to keep it a secret that they didn't actually use real pumpkins) and Belle started preparing the pan. Just a few more hours, and they would be out of there.
Finally, they finished up at 5:30. Belle wiped her forehead. "This could be one of the greatest moments of relief I've had in my life." She laughed. She started putting the pans back in the cabinets and grabbed her things.
"Wait! Before we go, don't we deserve to treat ourselves to one of our amazing creations?" Ruby pulled out a pumpkin pie she had hidden in one of the cabinets.
"I don't know if I can eat that after making a million of those," Belle grumbled.
"Come on! I actually used real pumpkin in this one. And if you share it with me I won't have to say that I ate the whole thing." Ruby laughed.
"Well, alright. But after this, no more pies for a month." Belle knew she probably wouldn't live up to that. She hated to admit that the pumpkin pies here were actually fantastic. Her and Ruby grabbed some forks and started eating it right out of the pan. "Oh my goodness, this is really good!" Belle scooped out another forkful. "I told you!" Ruby remarked. She scooped a piece of pumpkin out and plopped it on Belle's nose.
"Hey, careful! It's tough to keep this complexion!" Belle giggled. She took another forkful and flung it at Ruby's face. "Okay, it's on, princess." Ruby took a big glob of pie with her hand and mashed it on the top of Belle's head. Belle squealed. She found the carton of eggs nearby and cracked it on top of Ruby's head. Soon enough, it had become an all-out food fight.
Ruby and Belle looked at each other and laughed hysterically. They were both covered in pumpkin pie, eggs, and flour. "How are we supposed to clean all of this up?" Belle said, smearing some sort of flour-pumpkin substance off her face. "It'll take a while, that's for sure." Ruby said, wringing out her apron.
"You know, you look a lot cuter with your face smudged with canned pumpkin." Belle smirked.
"Shut up, or I will throw another egg at you!" Ruby tried not to blush. She had to admit it; food fights were pretty fun.
