Okay, I was bored in class, so I started writing an InuYasha one-shot. This is basically my take on how he realizes his love for Kagome. My friend Rose wants me to continue this, but I don't know if I will, so tell me what you think!
Kagome watched in horror as the demon struck Kikyo straight through the chest. The blow sent her plummeting off the side of the cliff. She didn't make a sound as she fell; she just closed her eyes and plunged downward.
"Kikyo!" InuYasha was by Kagome's side. "No! I'm coming for you!"
The waves below the cliff thrashed angrily, waiting to swallow Kikyo's body.
InuYasha started forward, but Miroku and Sango grabbed his shoulders, keeping him back.
"InuYasha," Miroku began, "think sensibly, Kikyo just fell thirty feet to the bottom of a river filled with rocks. There's no way she could live."
InuYasha's face fell, but it soon returned to its usual determined nature. "No. Kikyo!"
The hanyou broke away from his friends' grasps, running to the edge of the cliff off which his love fell, jumping.
"Inu…Yasha," Kagome fell to her knees, the blood gushing from the would that was recently inflicted on her right shoulder. She winced as the rock scraped the skin of her knees. I guess you need her more than me.
"Kagome!" that was the last thing she heard before her face hit the ground.
InuYasha battled against the wind as he plummeted toward the water. He gathered himself and landed hard on one of the rocks in the middle of the harsh torrent. He blew it off though, searching for any sign of his beloved.
"Kikyo!" InuYasha called out. He scanned the area, jumping from rock to rock.
Suddenly, a flash of red in the water caught his eye. He ran as quickly as he could and pulled her body out of the water. She wasn't breathing.
InuYasha put his hand under her stomach, holding her up. He used his other hand to push on her chest, trying to force the water out of her system. Nothing happened.
For the first time, he noticed the large gash in her back. She'd hit a rock.
"No…no, Kikyo. Don't leave me!" InuYasha buried his face in her long, wet hair. "I'm sorry – sorry I wasn't there for you."
InuYasha walked slowly, tracking the scent of his friends up a hill, Kikyo's body in his arms. As he reached the top, he saw Shippo and Kirara resting against a tree, miserable looks upon their faces.
A few moments later, Sango and Miroku emerged from the hut nearby. They wore the same woeful look.
InuYasha, curious, picked up the pace, hurrying to meet them.
"Oh, I see Kikyo has died," Miroku said softly. Beside him, Sango quietly burst into tears. Miroku turned, embracing her slowly.
"What's with you guys?" InuYasha inquired. "Where's Kagome?"
"That demon…he got Kagome's shoulder really deep with his claws. She died from the injury soon after you left to get Kikyo."
InuYasha dropped Kikyo's body, racing inside. Her body was made of clay, she had died before. Why didn't he stay with his living love?
Inside the hut, InuYasha dropped down beside Kagome. Blood stained her white school shirt, but she still looked peaceful, as if she were sleeping.
"I'm so sorry, Kagome."
InuYasha woke with a start, the fire casting strange shadows across his friends. He looked around frantically, sighing with relief when he saw Kagome, breathing deeply off to his side.
Quietly, he got up, crossing over to where she lay. He curled up around her, making sure his grasp was tight. He wouldn't let her go.
"I'll never leave you again," InuYasha breathed into her ear.
"Thank you."
