This was previously part- 1 of the series titled "Snapshots In Time" that I had planned to write. It was a one-shot when I originally started it, but for some reason I decide to convert it into a series of one-shots.

However, it didn't work for me and I have decided to return it to its original single-chapter story form. This piece is one of the shortest I have written and I hope you like it.

I apologize if some you have read it before and find it a repetition. I have taken down the previous two chapter story "Snapshots In Time" and they are now separate stand-alone pieces.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Supernatural or any of its affiliates.

Please don't forget to review :)

A Hunter's Secret Wish.

He looked at the sleeping figure lying in complete safety before him. Though he would never admit it in front of anyone, he reveled in the warmth radiating from the centre of his chest. It folded his features into one of the rarest displays of affection that he saved for the times when no one was around to witness it.

There was no way he'd let anyone tell him he was going soft in his age. Besides, thirty something is not old, he's just lived and seen more than a fair share of a young man his age would normally experience.

And so did his brother, behind him by only four years. Four years which made more difference in the two of them than either one would ever be able to fathom. Fate has been very stingy on them. She had never let them have their fair share of recuperation and moments like this.

He would give anything just to know that the younger and taller man lying on the creaky bed in front of him would always be safe… not just from the monsters outside of their temporary sanctuary, but also from the ones that wreaked havoc in his dreams.

After all that they had been through, and all that they were yet to, he deserved that kind of guarantee.

The world would never know enough about these two dedicated knights who rode in their big black steed and made sure that even the most undeserving, ungrateful soul was safe.

Perhaps one day, Destiny, Fate, Kismet… whatever the deciding force, will decide that they have had enough of broken bones and hearts and reward them with simple, boring, routinely predictable, domestic, unassuming and safe lives.

Till then, the two brothers would continue on their selfless path.

I'd love to know what you think! Review please? :)
