A/N: Something I wrote a long time ago and never posted.
'Twas the Night of Halloween
'Twas the night of Halloween, when in Godric's Hollow
Lord Voldemort came with a dark plan to follow.
To surprise the home of the esteemed Potter clan
And slay his great threat (if all went to plan).
Upon reaching the gate, he slipped through undetected
The foolish family inside believed they were protected.
Unbeknownst to them a killer lurked just outside
A betraying friend meant they could no longer hide.
In addition, the parents disregarded a critical rule-
One they had learned at Wizarding school.
To keep their wands on them (which they had not)
They lay in the bedroom all but forgot.
Sprawled out on the sofa, Father watched Son
Catching small wisps of smoke in innocent fun.
And stood in the corner, grinning, shaking her head,
Mother reached out bringing her son to bed.
Suddenly, violently Voldemort broke down the door.
James stood quickly, shaken to the core.
Voldemort raised his arm; his laugh was obscene.
With two spoken words there was a flash of green.
Lily was wand-less, (how foolish they were!)
Defenseless she'd die; the pain she'd endure.
With her babe in the crib, Lily turned with a heaving chest
Eagerly, Voldemort put her to rest.
Then the Dark Lord turned his wand on Harry
Harry looked with wet eyes, though his gaze wary.
Voldemort flicked his wand at the boy in bed,
But his curse rebounded and Death took him instead.
Both parents and Dark Lord had perished that night,
But strangers just danced 'round with delight.
Now they were safe (though that wouldn't last)
On Halloween the war ended, danger had passed!
