Dennis stopped running as he came upon the beginning of a dark forest, his imagination going into overdrive conjuring all manners of creatures that he could come across. Pulling himself together he started walking slowly into the forest, watching and listening for any signs of movement, completely unaware of the body-less head that was watching him from above.
"Arrrh this stupid forest is messing with my head." Dennis shouted in frustration after two hours of walking around in circles. "Why am I even bothering getting the little brat? With him gone I can actually go out with my mates instead of being stuck babysitting every weekend." He muttered to himself. Hearing the bushes rustle he turned towards the noise creeping closer, everything went suspiciously silent before the creature jumped from it's hiding place laughing madly as more of it's kind followed behind him throwing their heads at each other.
"So you want more time to play do you?" The creature asked chuckling. It was a strange looking being with long pointed ears, big round eyes, a purple square nose and red fur that covered it's face, chest, legs and hands.
"What are you?" Dennis asked slightly afraid of the creatures as he watches the others start pulling themselves apart.
"Well we're the fiery's lad or the fire gang, some even call us the wild things." Replied one of the older fiery's.
"Yea cuz we know how to have us a good time." Another fiery added.
Dennis watched them, jealous of their carefree nature. No chores to do, no annoying brothers to babysit or nagging parents. He started moving closer to the gang slowly joining in with their dancing. Laughing like he'd never had before not even noticing when he started to change. His limbs slowly stretching, his clothes ripping as fur sprouted over his body and yet he still danced away, his memories fading faster and faster. The change complete his limbs came apart and fell to the forest floor. Everyone stopped dancing and looked down at the newly formed fiery waiting to see if his mind had also completed the change. The new fiery burst out laughing "You guys going to help me up or what?" They all laughed madly before helping to put him back together and resuming their dancing.
In the castle beyond the goblin city Jareth sat on the window ledge holding a crystal that had been showing him the runners journey through his labyrinth. "So the lad has lost himself to fiery's. What a pity." A small smirk playing on his thin lips as he threw the crystal into the air.
