"How are you doing with this twin thing?"
"Do you have a couple of hours?" Sam asked in response.
"Okay." He replied sincerely.
"That was the answer."
Stupid, stupid, stupid! Sam thought to herself later in her quarters. The one time Jack 'I never talk or listen to anyone' O'Neill was willing to listen and possibly actually take in something I have to say and I blow him off!
There was so much she wanted to say to him and he obviously wanted to say something to her. Sam paced the room in her pyjamas before deciding to forget about the subject and go to bed.
Jack walked the corridors to Sam's quarters. He was going to talk to Sam whether she liked it or not. Knocking quietly on her door he waited for an answer. None came. Slowly he opened the door.
He smiled at the sight of his 2IC splayed out on her bed, and arm and a leg hanging over the side and a tuft of hair visible over the covers.
Now what? She's asleep and will not like it if I wake her up, she'd castrate me. He turned to leave as she sneezed and sat up. That's so cute…what the hell? I do not find Major Carter cute!
"Sir?" She asked rubbing her eyes and looking at the figure by the door.
"Hey Carter, I uh…"
"I'm sorry about earlier, this whole thing is just a lot to take in right now." She said wrapping the covers around herself.
"Yeah, its very weird seeing two of you around." Not to mention my fantasies come half true-don't think that O'Neill! "Do you uh, want to talk about it?"
"Are you sure sir?" He really does want to listen; maybe he's from an alternate universe.
"Like I said, I have a few hours to kill." He shut the door behind him and walked over to straddle a chair near her bed.
"Okay then, it's just a bit strange to think that only myself and Major Kowalski came though the mirror. I think I can deal with the fact that there are an infinite number of alternate realities out there but somehow it just doesn't sit right." She frowned.
"I told the other you that she could stay, she said…" I've got to tell her. "She said that she lost me, we were married in her reality."
Oh shit! Sam thought.
"I just thought you should know, you know in case Charlie said something." He said talking to the floor.
"I guess this must be even worse for her then, seeing you die and now seeing you here." Must not cry, resist urge to turn into a blubbering fool in front of my beautiful CO. "I …"
"Sam." His chocolate eyes met hers. Don't cry for me Sam.
"Please don't." I don't know what I'd do if I lost you.
"Two realities Sam." Two Goddamn realities, where we have been together.
"It's so unfair." She sobbed, a stray tear rolled down her cheek as she looked at him.
"I know." Reaching out for her hand to stroke, he moved onto the bed next to her. Please don't cry. I love it when you cry because it's the only time I can hold you and make it all go away, but please don't. "We'll have our day."
Sam leaned into his chest and let the tears flow, Jack held her until she fell asleep. You'll put it down to exhaustion, to being woken up so late at night, to the stress you are under. But deep down I know you are crying for us. And tomorrow we'll go on as if this never happened like usual.
Gently laying her down and covering her with the blankets he kissed the top of her head on her soft silky hair."Good night my Sam."
